Student Welfare Officer (10-Month Contract)
Job Purpose
My client is seeking a dedicated and student-centric Student Welfare Officer to support the development of a caring, safe, and inclusive school environment. The successful candidate will work closely with school leaders, teachers, students, parents, and external stakeholders to support student well-being, discipline management, and positive behavioural development.
This role is suitable for individuals who are passionate about youth engagement, student development, and creating a supportive school culture.
Contract Duration- Month Contract (Excluding School Holidays)
- Student Well-Being & Environment
- Promote a positive, inclusive, and supportive school culture that prioritises student well-being.
- Assist in identifying, supporting, and monitoring students with social, emotional, behavioural, or attendance concerns.
- Support students returning to school after long-term absences through social-emotional and basic academic reintegration support.
- Conduct regular walkabouts to observe student behaviour, build rapport, and provide informal mentoring where appropriate.
- Support student engagement and maintain orderliness during school hours, recess, lunch, dismissal, and after-school activities.
- Conduct regular patrols within and outside the school premises to promote student safety and positive behaviour.
- Life Skills Development
- Develop and curate resources to support life skills education, including emotional regulation, resilience, communication, and decision-making.
- Support the planning, coordination, and implementation of targeted student programmes and interventions.
- Monitor attendance and progress of students involved in programmes and interventions.
- Evaluate programme effectiveness and recommend improvements where necessary.
- Student Discipline & Case Management
- Support the management and follow-up of student discipline cases in a fair and professional manner.
- Conduct preliminary investigations and assist in documentation of discipline-related matters.
- Maintain accurate case records in accordance with school policies and confidentiality requirements.
- Restorative Practices & Student Intervention
- Facilitate restorative conversations and mediation sessions between students where appropriate.
- Support students in reflecting on their behaviour and taking responsibility for their actions.
- Work closely with school staff to implement behavioural interventions and support plans.
- Stakeholder Collaboration
- Liaise with parents, teachers, school leaders, and external stakeholders on student welfare and discipline matters.
- Collaborate with school staff to coordinate support strategies and interventions for students.
- Provide updates and case-related inputs to school leaders where required.
- Support school programmes, student engagement initiatives, and parent engagement activities.
- Other Duties
- Any other duties and responsibilities assigned by the school.
Requirements
Qualifications- Preferably possess a Diploma in Care and Programme (Student Services & Coaching) or related disciplines from a recognised institution.
- At least 2 years of relevant working experience in student management, youth engagement, school-based support services, mentoring, counselling support, behavioural intervention, or related areas.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Able to engage students positively and build rapport effectively.
- Calm, firm, and professional in handling student discipline matters.
- Good documentation and case management skills.
- Able to handle sensitive and confidential matters professionally.
- Team player with the ability to work collaboratively with school staff and parents.
Working Environment
The role is based in a primary school environment and involves active engagement with students throughout the school day. Candidates should be comfortable with a hands-on and operational role that includes student supervision, walkabouts, and stakeholder engagement.
