Air Freight Manager

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

1. Air Freight Operations Management:

• Manage and Oversee day-to-day air freight operations. Develop and drive commercial initiatives.
• Responsible for Carriers and Vendor management; review Operational KPIs, Tenders and Procurement Strategies. Develop and uphold strong professional relationships to ensure optimum support.
• Constant development and review of Trade Lane and Gateway strategies to increase yield per Kg and/or improve service lead times with the objective to gain business opportunities.
• Ensure accuracy and adherence to deadlines through close monitoring of booking, shipment tracking, and delivery of air cargo.
• Coordinate with airlines, ground handling agents, and customs authorities to facilitate the timely movement of cargo.
• Provide clients with updates on air freight shipments, discrepancies and operational or service-related issues promptly and professionally.

1. Customer Relationship Management:

• Develop and maintain strong relationships with key customers, understanding their needs and ensuring high levels of satisfaction.
• Collaborate with sales teams to identify new business opportunities and provide tailored air freight solutions.

1. Cost Management and Budgeting:

• Monitor and control air freight costs, striving for cost-effective solutions while maintaining service quality.
• Negotiate rates and service terms with airlines, handling agents, and other service providers.
• Prepare and manage budgets for air freight operations, ensuring profitability and cost control.

1. Compliance and Documentation:

• Ensure all air freight shipments comply with international regulations, customs requirements, and company policies.
• Oversee the preparation of accurate documentation, including airway bills, customs declarations, and other required documents.
• Stay up to date with changes in regulations and industry standards to ensure compliance.

1. Team Leadership and Development:

• Lead and manage a team of air freight executives, and support personnel.
• Provide training, guidance, and support to team members to enhance performance and professional development.
• Foster a collaborative and productive team environment.

1. Performance Monitoring and Reporting:

• Monitor air freight performance, analyze key performance indicators (KPIs), and implement improvements to optimize efficiency and service delivery.
• Prepare and present regular performance reports to senior management.
• Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices in air freight operations.

Qualifications and Skills:

• Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or related field (advantageous).
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in air freight operations or logistics management, with at least 3 years in a managerial role.
• Strong knowledge of air freight operations, customs regulations, and international trade requirements.
• Excellent negotiation skills and experience managing vendor relationships.
• Strong leadership and people management skills.
• Proficient in air freight software and systems (CargoWise One, TMFF, SAPTM).
• Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Fluency in English; proficiency in other languages is a plus.
