Job Description
Reporting to Faculty Finance Lead, the incumbent will service as a Finance Business Partner to the designated Dean's Office, Departments/Units within the faculty. Provide financial and business advisories to the internal stakeholders that are critical to their decision-making purposes and ensure compliance with University's financial policies and procedures, and funding agencies' terms & conditions / guidelines.Foster and maintain a regular working relationship within the Faculty, Departments, central shared services teams, and other functional partners. Support the operationalisation of faculty initiatives and the enhancement of finance processes and reporting capabilities.
Responsibilities
Finance Business Partnering:
- Provide Finance Business Partnering Support to faculty by working closely with internal stakeholders to deliver financial insights and advice aligned with business objectives.
- Support faculty stakeholders, managing financial queries and fostering effective communication.
- Manage department-level financial matters, such as research grant management, withholding tax filing, ensuring timely and accurate resolution.
- Ensure adherence to internal controls and compliance with NUS Financial Policies and Procedures.
- Perform ad hoc duties as assigned
Financial Planning, Analysis & Reporting:
- Strategic Financial Planning, analysis & Reporting: Support long-term financial planning, budgeting, financial management reporting to the Central Financial Planning & Finance Team & Faculty Leadership Team.
- Reporting & Compliance: Preparation and analysis of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial and management reports for leadership and stakeholders (e.g. Budget utilization and fund balance reports).
- Business case analysis and insights: Support business case analysis, financial modelling, and provide insights to inform decision-making.
Process Automation & Operational Efficiency:
- Process Improvements. Review and streamline existing finance processes to improve data quality, reporting accuracy, and operational effectiveness.
- Implement Automation Tools: Identify and implement automation solutions or workflow automation platforms, to streamline reporting and financial processes, improving operational efficiency, effectiveness and minimising errors.
- System Integration: Integrate financial systems, databases, and reporting tools to ensure seamless data flow and consistency across the faculty's financial operations.
- Oversee and coordinate key operational finance areas, including tax-related matters, fixed asset processes, journal review, and resolution of operational issues with Shared Services.
Other Duties:
- Any other ad-hoc business performance reporting to Management and/or stakeholders as assigned from time to time.
Qualifications
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, in financial planning & analysis.
- Preferred certifications:
- CMA (Certified Management Accountant)
- ACCA or equivalent, CPA an advantage
- FP&A-related certifications
- Technical Skills
- Advanced Excel (PivotTables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, INDEX-MATCH, Power Query, macros).
- Financial Modeling
- Data Analysis, Dashboarding & Visualization (e.g. Power BI).
- ERP & Financial Systems (SAP S/4HANA & Jedox or similar).
- At least 5 years of experience in budgeting, forecasting, financial modelling, and variance analysis, and cost management.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills for non-financial stakeholders.
- Excellent analytical and numerical skills
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Knowledge of fund accounting (preferred for higher education roles).
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
