Laboratory Assistant (Specimen Reception)

Job Description:

• Follows laboratory protocol in checking specimens received from clinics/clients and make sure that names tally with the request forms.
• Follows protocol with utmost care and diligent in bar coding samples and request forms for testing.
• Follows all laboratory policies in the area of blood borne pathogens and safety. Utilizes appropriate personal protective equipment.
• Able to follow test requirements of reference laboratory and procure appropriate specimen for testing.
• Processes laboratory specimens received from patients using prescribed laboratory guidelines.
• May assist clerical staff in reception areas of the laboratory.
• Prepare samples for sending out to other laboratories.
• Utilizes centrifuges and other lab equipment to process specimens and prepare them for testing.
• Assists in the care and maintenance of lab work area, furnishings and equipment.
• Maintains adequate level of supplies in the work area.
• Receives requested stock items and distributes them to the appropriate place within the laboratory.
• May be rotated to other lab locations or shifts as necessary.
• Performs other assigned duties as instructed or required.

Job Requirements:

• 5.5 day work week
• Minimum GCE 'N' Level
• Able to commit to fixed Afternoon shifts/ weekends/ Rotational Sunday & Public Holiday Shift
• Basic knowledge in computer skills preferred.
