Operations Specialist
Role Overview
The Operations Specialist role provides end‑to‑end exposure to core hedge fund operational functions, with responsibilities spanning Middle Office & Fund Accounting and Compliance.
This role is open to both fresh graduates and experienced hires. Responsibilities and level of supervision will be calibrated based on the candidate’s prior experience, with a common expectation of independent role ownership by Year 3.
The role is designed to develop professionals who can operate independently within a licensed fund management environment and contribute meaningfully to the firm’s operational, compliance, and governance framework.
Role Structure and Responsibilities- Middle Office & Fund Accounting
- Support daily NAV and P&L review processes to ensure accuracy and completeness
- Validate trades, corporate actions, and lifecycle events
- Perform position, cash, and performance reconciliations
- Liaise with fund administrators, prime brokers, and counterparties
- Identify, investigate, and resolve breaks in a timely and controlled manner
- Maintain appropriate documentation to support audit and control requirements
- Compliance
- Conduct daily and post‑trade compliance monitoring
- Support ongoing surveillance of trading and research activities
- Maintain compliance logs, monitoring records, and internal documentation
- Assist with internal audits, external audits, and regulatory reviews
- Support the implementation and maintenance of compliance policies and procedures
Progression and Development
Years 1–2: Integration and Functional Rotation- Build operational proficiency across middle office and compliance functions
- Execute day‑to‑day operational routines with increasing independence
- Develop a strong understanding of how investment activities interface with operational and compliance requirements
- Gradually take ownership of defined processes
Year 3 Onwards: Independent Ownership and Broadening Exposure
By Year 3, the Operations Specialist is expected to:
- Operate independently across assigned middle office and compliance responsibilities
- Act as a reliable point of contact for internal stakeholders and external service providers
- Support the COO on operational and governance matters as required
At this stage, the firm encourages exposure to adjacent areas such as:
- Investor and management reporting
- Portfolio and risk analytics
- Marketing and client communications support
- Operational process improvement and automation initiatives
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required- Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related discipline
- Strong attention to detail and execution discipline
- Willingness to support Japanese market trading hours and follow the Japan trading calendar
- Proficiency in Japanese (spoken and written) to support communication with Japanese stakeholders, counterparties, and/or review of Japanese-language materials.
- Professional attitude suited to a regulated fund management environment
- Prior experience in fund accounting, middle office, compliance, or asset management operations
- Familiarity with hedge fund workflows, service providers, or regulatory expectations
- Ability to work effectively in a small, high‑accountability team
- Structured exposure across core hedge fund operational functions
- Early responsibility within a regulated investment management platform
- Direct interaction with senior management and service providers
- A professional environment focused on long‑term development and institutional standards
