Job Description

The National University of Singapore invites applications for a Research Fellow position in the Department of Physiology, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. Our Aging and Metabolism Research Laboratory, led by Dr. TSAI, Shih-Yin, investigates the cellular and molecular mechanisms driving muscle function and resilience during aging.

For more details, visit our lab website: https://medicine.nus.edu.sg/phys/lab/TsaiSY_Lab/Index.html

Research Focus:

Skeletal muscle undergoes significant changes with age and injury, including impaired regeneration and loss of mass. A key aspect of muscle repair and maintenance involves nuclear migration, which may be disrupted during aging or damage. This project seeks to uncover the mechanisms governing nuclear migration in skeletal muscle in response to damage and aging, with a focus on its role in muscle regeneration and homeostasis.

We are seeking a detail-oriented and self-motivated Research Fellow to join our team and advance our understanding of nuclear migration in muscle aging and repair.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The Research Fellow will:

  • Lead the design and execution of studies investigating nuclear migration in skeletal muscle during aging and damage.
  • Conduct independent research, analyze data, and disseminate findings through publications and presentations.
  • Collaborate with lab members to support the broader goals of the research program.
Qualifications
  • A PhD or equivalent degree in medicine, molecular biology, or a related field, completed by the start of employment.
  • At least one first-author publication in a peer-reviewed journal.

Additional Requirements:

  • 2–3 years of hands-on experience culturing primary myoblasts and/or satellite cells (essential).
  • Experience with rodent models of skeletal muscle damage or aging (preferred).
  • Familiarity with immunofluorescence staining or live-cell imaging techniques (an advantage).

Position Details:

  • Appointments will be offered on a 1-year contract, with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding availability. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Application

To apply, please submit the following:

  • A detailed CV, including personal particulars, academic and employment history, a complete list of publications and oral presentations, and contact details for three referees.
  • A cover letter indicating your current or expected salary.

Applications should be sent to [[email protected]].

We regret that only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
