Research Fellow (Aging and Metabolism Research Laboratory) - Toa Payoh
National University of Singapore Toa Payoh Full-time
Job Description
The National University of Singapore invites applications for a Research Fellow position in the Department of Physiology, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. Our Aging and Metabolism Research Laboratory, led by Dr. TSAI, Shih-Yin, investigates the cell-intrinsic mechanisms and extracellular factors that accelerate the decline of muscle function during aging. For more details, visit our lab website: https://medicine.nus.edu.sg/phys/lab/TsaiSY_Lab/Index.html
Research Focus:
Aging profoundly impacts muscle tissues: skeletal muscle undergoes atrophy, while cardiac muscle exhibits reactive hypertrophy in response to the progressive loss of myocytes. Our preliminary findings suggest that impaired metabolic flexibility—the ability to switch between lipid and carbohydrate metabolism based on demand—may underpin muscle aging. This project aims to elucidate the role of muscle lipid metabolism in maintaining the health of skeletal muscle, cardiac muscle, or both. We are seeking a meticulous, self-motivated Research Fellow to join our dynamic team and contribute to cutting-edge research on muscle aging and metabolism.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
The Research Fellow will:
- Lead the design and execution of studies exploring metabolic changes in muscle aging.
- Perform independent research, analyze data, and present findings through publications and presentations.
- Collaborate with team members and contribute to the lab’s broader research goals.
- A PhD or equivalent degree in medicine, molecular biology, or a related field, completed by the start of employment.
- At least one first-author publication in a peer-reviewed journal.
Additional Requirements:
- 3–4 years of hands-on experience with rodent models of muscle dystrophy or cardiovascular diseases.
- Proficiency in mouse dissection and immunofluorescence staining of tissues.
- Experience with cell culture, ideally with primary satellite cells or myoblasts (preferred but not required).
Position Details:
- Appointments will be offered on a 1-year contract, with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding availability. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Application
To apply, please submit the following:
- A detailed CV, including personal particulars, academic and employment history, a complete list of publications and oral presentations, and contact details for three referees.
- A cover letter indicating your current or expected salary.
Applications should be sent to [[email protected]].
We regret that only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
