Job Description
The National University of Singapore invites applications for Research Assistant for high containment research projects in the NUS Med BSL-3 Core Facility in the Department of Microbiology & Immunology, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. The Department of Microbiology and Immunology has distinguished itself in biomedical research.Research in the Department encompasses very diverse questions and uses a wide variety of approaches, experimental systems, and techniques in immunology, medical virology, bacteriology, parasitology, molecular biology and biotechnology. Appointments will be made on a yearly contract basis with the possibility of extension.
Purpose of the post
The Research Assistant (RA) will be responsible to, and work closely with, the Principal Investigator and study team members to conduct research projects in the NUS Med BSL-3 Core Facility. The RA’s principal role will be to work on service and collaborative projects of the BSL-3 Facility
Main duties and responsibilities
The Research Assistant will assist in research in both BSL-2 and BSL-3 labs of the BSL-3 Core Facility and will be accountable to the Principle Investigator (PI). The RA will be able to:
- Performing cutting-edge research in both BSL-2 and BSL-3 settings for developing pandemic preparedness research resources
- Perform research using in vitro and in vivo models of infection
- Laboratory management
- Supervision of graduate or undergraduate students
- Assist with any other duties of a similar nature delegated by the PI
Qualifications
The applicant should:
- Bachelor Degree in Laboratory Sciences/Biomedical Sciences/Life Sciences or equivalent degree
- Minimum 2 years experiences working in BSL-2 laboratory is required
- Prior experience in working with models for virus infection. Experience in working in BSL3 environment are preferred
- Experience in microbiology related lab work, basic molecular biology, and cellular biology techniques
- Experience in animal handling will be an added advantage
- Ability to speak and write well in English
- A positive attitude with a good team player
- Excellent interpersonal communications (oral and written) skills with attention to details
- Highly motivated with willing to learn new techniques/software, etc
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment including respiratory protection equipment during the experiment period
