Teacher of Primary School Music (Part-Time) - Geylang
UWCSEA is seeking a Part Time Teacher of Primary School Music to join its Dover Campus in October 2025.
The successful candidate will report to the Head of Music and be responsible for teaching general Music classes in Grades 2 to 5 (7 - 11 year-olds). The Primary School music curriculum explores a wide range of musical styles through units focused on context, listening, composing, and performing within a CBTL context and influenced by Orff pedagogy.Additionally, where there is demand, the candidate will provide 1:1 or small group lessons on their principal or second instrument through the College’s Instrumental Teaching Programme (ITP). They should also be prepared to cover music classes across K-12 as needed, with a particular focus on K-5.
The successful candidate will be actively involved in the school’s Music ECA Programme and will collaborate closely with the Primary School Music team and the broader Primary School. They should be willing to lead or work collaboratively on grade-level performance presentations for parents.Additionally, the ability to play piano and a willingness to lead grade singing would be a valuable asset.
The Music Department at UWCSEA (Dover) is an energetic and vibrant learning environment that encourages all students to participate and excel in music. The successful applicant will work in a team of ten experienced music teachers and alongside over 40 visiting instrumental teachers.The Music Department produces highly successful concert performances and productions, as well as excellent examination results, both in academic music and in practical music exams. Music is taught to all students from K1 to Grade 8. In Grades 9 & 10 students elect to study the UWCSEA Music courses and in Grades 11 and 12 for the IB diploma.
Our outstanding facilities include a Recording Studio, Recital Room, eight Music classrooms, twenty-four practice rooms, meeting room and ITP teachers’ lounge. The Music department is supported by a full-time administrator, sound technician and Primary Music teaching assistant for G2 and most G3 classes.
Main Responsibilities- To teach general Primary Music classes (G2-G5) in a concept-based learning environment.
- Work collaboratively with the Primary Music team to plan lessons and further develop the curriculum.
- Be actively involved in the wide and varied Music Activities Programme on offer.
- Work collaboratively to assist students in sharing their learning through performances and productions.
- Work with a high degree of flexibility and be positive towards taking on a variety of roles and responsibilities across age groups in a complex and dynamic department.
- Be willing to teach a variety of musical styles and cultures using Orff pedagogy.
- Be willing to lead or work collaboratively on grade-level performance presentations for parents.
- Ability to play piano and lead grade singing.
- Attend internal and external meetings when required.
- Communicate with students and parents through online learning platforms.
- Follow the UWCSEA Professional Code of Conduct and Safeguarding Code of Conduct.
- Teach in line with the UWCSEA Teacher Standards
- A degree and a teaching qualification is a prerequisite.
- More than 5 years of experience
- The ability to engage with students and to engender enthusiasm for learning is a prerequisite for teaching at UWCSEA.
- Teachers should be willing and eager to participate in the five key elements of a UWCSEA education: Academic; Personal and Social Education; Service; Activities; Outdoor Education. Music teachers are expected to contribute specifically to Music-related activities. For Part-Time teachers, this commitment is calculated on a reasonable pro rata basis.
- Academic expectations include enthusiastic participation in Professional Development, both that which is mandated by the College and that which is identified by the teacher.
- On average the College expects a yearly contribution of two sessions per week in each season to Activities and/or Service. For Part-Time teachers, this commitment is calculated on a reasonable pro rata basis.
