Optical Network Planning Engineer (GOVT | $3800 | East) - MJ 28725

Job Summary

We are looking for an Optical Network Planning Engineers to support network capacity planning, digital inventory management, network optimisation, and project implementation. The role will involve analysing network utilisation, maintaining accurate inventory records, coordinating with internal and external stakeholders, and supporting restoration activities during outages.

• Study and analyse network capacity utilisation and plan changes to optimise and expand the network
• Generate monthly reports through digital inventory systems to monitor network utilisation, analyse trends, and recommend improvements
• Ensure inventory assets, utilisation records, and circuit routings are updated accurately and on time
• Maintain inventory record accuracy for ILC infrastructure, including bilateral fibre connectivity with partners
• Work with portal development teams and stakeholders to enhance digital inventory features and improve automation for circuit assignment
• Streamline inventory control processes to support leaner and more efficient operations
• Document network design, configurations, and topology diagrams for process reference, training, and ongoing support
• Collaborate with internal teams such as account management, customer service, project management, and other stakeholders on capacity requests and new sales orders
• Coordinate with external parties, including partners and vendors, for planning and implementation activities
• Support ad hoc restoration during outages by planning restoration using available capacity within the required SLA
• Manage assigned projects, monitor timelines and resources, and ensure project delivery within agreed timelines
• Support operations during assigned standby periods and respond to urgent requests or outages for circuit restoration
• Attend onsite activities when required to work with vendors on system planning, implementation, and migration activities
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor

• Diploma in Engineering, Telecommunications, or a relevant field
• Experience in a telecom environment, with exposure to transport networks, optical transmission, and ethernet technologies
• Good understanding of transport network architectures such as OTN, Ethernet, and DWDM
• Knowledge of L2 and L3 networking, TCP/IP, IP addressing, and routing protocols
• Experience with networking hardware from major vendors will be an advantage
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills
• Goal oriented, committed, and able to deliver assigned projects on time
• Able to work independently with minimum supervision
• Flexible and adaptable, with a proactive mindset to take on new challenges
• Comfortable with standby support and onsite work when required
