Systems Engineer

apartmentATOMIONICS PTE. LTD. placeBukit Batok descriptionPermanent calendar_month
Do you want to be part of the team that revolutionizes the resource exploration and navigation industry? Atomionics is working on quantum sensors based on cold atom interferometry where atoms are cooled down to almost absolute zero using lasers.
At such cold temperatures, these atoms start behaving like waves, which allows us to precisely measure the forces acting on them. This opens up a wide range of applications including, but not limited to, paving a path in the energy transition to zero-carbon, exponentially improving the performance of inertial navigation systems, and transforming the global positioning system.

At Atomionics, you will get the chance to prototype, test, refine, finalize, and produce your designs toward making our devices compact and robust for field deployment with the only constraints being power and your imagination.

We are looking for a system engineer who:

  • Wants the freedom to innovate by being involved in deep tech research.
  • Is excited by the prospect of working within an interdisciplinary team of electronics engineers, physicists, and software engineers.
  • Would like to own their work via compelling equity offerings.
We are a small, focused group in a high-energy environment. Our team consists of people at the top of their domains with a diverse set of experience, such as in advanced rocket engines, the first digital cameras, and high-resolution microscopes, apart from cold atom physics.

In addition, we are backed by some fantastic investors from the private and public sectors, such as Wavemaker, SGInnovate, Cap Vista, 500 Startups, and other prominent angels.

The opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and exceptionally motivated Systems Engineer to play a pivotal role in the design, development, integration, and testing of our next-generation drone-based quantum gravimeter systems. This is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of aerospace engineering, quantum physics, and advanced robotics, directly contributing to the success of a truly novel technology.

Responsibilities
  • System Architecture & Design: Lead the architectural design of the complete drone-based quantum gravimeter system, encompassing the drone platform, quantum sensor payload, power management, communication links, data acquisition, and ground control infrastructure.
  • Requirements Management: Translate high-level scientific and operational requirements into detailed engineering specifications for all system components, ensuring traceability and verifiability.
  • Hardware-Software Integration: Drive the seamless integration of the quantum gravimeter payload with the drone's flight control systems, navigation sensors, and power distribution units.
  • Payload Engineering: Work closely with quantum physicists to understand the specific environmental and operational requirements of the quantum gravimeter, designing robust mounting solutions, vibration isolation, thermal management, and power delivery for the sensitive payload.
  • Drone Platform Optimization: Collaborate with drone manufacturers to select, modify, or design drone platforms optimized for carrying precise scientific instruments, considering factors like payload capacity, flight endurance, stability, and environmental resilience.
  • Data Acquisition & Processing: Design and implement robust data acquisition pipelines for high-precision gravimetry data, including real-time telemetry and post-processing frameworks.
  • Control System Development: Contribute to the development and refinement of control algorithms for stable drone flight, precise positioning, and active stabilization of the gravimeter.

Must have skills/ experience:

  • Degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Robotics, Physics, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in systems engineering for complex hardware/software integrated systems.
  • Have worked on complex products from concept to production
  • Demonstrated experience with SWaP optimization
  • Familiarity with precision instrumentation, sensitive sensor integration
  • Understanding of sensor fusion techniques (IMU, GPS, LiDAR)
  • Proven track record of diagnosing and resolving challenging technical issues in multidisciplinary environments.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, fast-paced, and agile development environment.

Nice to have skills:

  • Worked on integrated products involving electronics, programming, optics, etc.
  • Experience with vibration isolation and thermal management for sensitive instruments.
  • Worked on quantum/ space/ aerospace projects.
  • Worked on personal hobby projects (and can brag about them!)
