The Technical Supervisor oversees the daily theatre operations with a focus on automation, rigging, and safety. This role leads the technical crew, ensures show systems are performance-ready, and supports rehearsals, maintenance, and special events.
Collaborating across departments, the Technical Supervisor guarantees the smooth execution of live shows to uphold world-class performances for guests.
Key Responsibilities:
- Compile and publish daily technical schedules, ensuring fair rotation of show assignments. Coordinate with Stage Management for optimal crew deployment and any schedule adjustments.
- Supervise and monitor team members during live shows, rehearsals, and event setups, ensuring adherence to technical standards.
- Operate and supervise the safe use of theatre automation systems (e.g. performer flying rigs, flybar systems). Assist in the rigging of scenery, lighting, and special effects equipment in compliance with international and local codes.
- Troubleshoot technical issues during theatre operations, including during live performances and rehearsals, escalating to the Assistant Technical Manager where necessary.
- Ensure timely and efficient execution of maintenance tasks, minimizing downtime and preserving show quality.
- Train team members in the safe and effective operation of technical equipment, fostering cross-functional skills and technical proficiency.
- Actively mentor technicians in automation operation and technical practices, and maintain familiarity with updated procedures, equipment, and safety standards.
- Enforce strict compliance with RWS, Universal Destination Xperience (UDX), and local safety regulations among the technical team, particularly in automation and overhead rigging.
- Demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, and a safety-first attitude in all tasks to promote a culture of delivering safe, high-quality, and world-class entertainment.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree / Diploma / WSQ Equivalent in Technical Theatre, Theatrical Management, or a related field supplemented by courses in Electronics, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
- With Degree / Diploma / WSQ Equivalent: 6 – 8 years of related industry experience in facets of technical event production and multiple-venue management, with 1 year of experience managing technical personnel.
- Without Diploma / WSQ Equivalent: 8 – 10 years of related industry experience in facets of technical event production and multiple-venue management, with 2 years of experience managing technical personnel.
- Strong knowledge of industry standards and safety protocol.
- Experience in entertainment equipment and systems including Staging, Lighting, Sound, Audio-visual, Rigging, Show Control, SFX and Automation.
Skills/Attributes:
- Proven ability to plan, organize and complete tasks in an acceptable timeframe.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Able to perform shift work, including in weekends and Public Holidays.
