Role Summary
The Settlement Officer is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of loan, treasury, and operational transactions, including drawdowns, repayments, rollovers, and related settlements. The incumbent will ensure the proper execution of loan agreements, maintain strong operational controls, and support the Bank’s lending activities through effective coordination with internal stakeholders and external counterparties.
Key Responsibilities- Process loan drawdowns, repayments, interest payments, rollovers, and related settlement activities in accordance with approved loan agreements and operational procedures.
- Verify loan terms, funding instructions, settlement details, and transaction documentation prior to execution.
- Coordinate with borrowers, agents, counterparties, custodians, and internal teams to facilitate timely and accurate settlements.
- Monitor cash funding requirements and ensure adequate liquidity is available for loan disbursements and settlements.
- Investigate and resolve settlement discrepancies, payment delays, reconciliation breaks, and operational issues in a timely manner.
- Maintain accurate transaction records and ensure all supporting documentation is complete and properly filed.
- Perform daily reconciliations of loan positions, cash movements, interest accruals, and related accounts.
- Ensure all transactions comply with internal policies, credit terms, operational procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Support internal and external audit requests, regulatory reporting, and compliance reviews related to loan operations.
- Identify opportunities for process enhancements to improve operational efficiency, accuracy, and risk controls.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support business initiatives and operational projects.
- Perform other ad hoc duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.
- Diploma or Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 5–7 years of relevant experience in Loan Operations, Settlements, Treasury Operations, or Banking Back Office functions.
- Strong understanding of loan products, including bilateral and syndicated loans. Exposure to trade finance products will be advantageous.
- Familiarity with SWIFT messaging standards, including ISO 20022, and banking settlement systems.
- Experience working with reconciliation tools, core banking platforms, and operational processing systems is preferred.
- Knowledge of banking regulations, operational controls, and risk management practices would be advantageous.
- Strong attention to detail with a high level of accuracy in transaction processing.
- Good understanding of loan documentation, settlement processes, and payment mechanics.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to investigate and resolve operational issues effectively.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to coordinate across internal and external parties.
- Ability to work under pressure, manage competing priorities, and meet tight deadlines.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, and banking operational systems.
- Team-oriented, proactive, and committed to maintaining high standards of operational excellence.
