Marine Underwriter (Cargo)

Summary: To assess, price, and manage marine insurance risks while ensuring compliance with company guidelines and contributing to portfolio profitability and business development in line with the company's overall strategy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To analyse risks and their exposures for assessment of risk quality and insurance coverage, including pricing of risks and the other related requirements.
  • To identify and develop new sources of business.
  • To ensure compliance with company guidelines in the underwriting of the Marine business.
  • To take on other assigned roles and responsibilities relevant to the reinsurance business.
  • To research the trends of reinsurance markets and participate in developing business strategies.
  • To ensure proper administration of Marine business transactions, including follow-up actions for endorsement, registration in the IT system and reporting.
  • To provide advice on claims matters.
  • To cooperate with other teams in the pursuit of company targets.
  • Be able to carry out a desk-top evaluation of a risk and, where necessary, seek relevant information clarification from the cedant/broker.
  • Be able to cost the exposure and set other terms and conditions to ensure long-term profitability.
  • Be able to evaluate and steer the portfolio to enhance results and to fit the company’s risk appetite.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in the insurance/ reinsurance industry as a Marine Underwriter
  • Regional underwriting experience with strong knowledge of relevant markets
  • Experience and market knowledge in Treaty business will be an advantage
  • Fluent in spoken and written English
  • Strong oral and written communication with excellent negotiation skills
  • Effective interpersonal skills, approachable and a team player
  • ACII/FCII or equivalent professional qualification is an advantage
  • Willingness to travel as required
