Manager, Derivatives Accounting (6 months contract)

Our client, a leading player in the digital asset and financial services space, is seeking a seasoned Derivative Accounting Manager to oversee the accounting and financial reporting for a wide range of derivative instruments, including options, futures, perpetual swaps, and OTC contracts.

This role requires deep technical expertise in derivative accounting, strong process ownership, and the ability to work cross-functionally within a dynamic, fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will bring a balance of strategic insight and hands-on execution, particularly in regulated or high-growth financial environments.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as the subject matter expert on derivative accounting, ensuring accurate interpretation and application of relevant standards across the business.
  • Manage the full accounting lifecycle for derivative instruments, including complex OTC products.
  • Oversee monthly valuation processes using appropriate pricing models and market inputs in collaboration with trading, risk, and technical accounting teams.
  • Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and disclosures related to derivatives.
  • Contribute to the preparation of financial statements, footnotes, and internal management reporting packages.
  • Design and maintain robust internal controls around derivative recognition, measurement, and disclosures, in compliance with SOX requirements.
  • Support external audits by coordinating with auditors and providing required documentation.
  • Identify and implement process improvements for enhanced accuracy and efficiency in derivative accounting and reporting.
  • Work with technology and operations teams to automate valuation and reporting tools.
  • Assist in regulatory reporting, including derivative-related disclosures.
  • Draft and review technical accounting memos in partnership with the group accounting function.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in derivative accounting and financial reporting, ideally from a crypto trading firm, hedge fund, or financial institution.
  • CPA or equivalent professional certification.
  • Strong technical knowledge of derivative instruments, with experience in exotic options, perpetuals, and structured OTC products preferred.
  • Keen interest in the crypto and digital asset space; prior experience is a plus but not essential.
  • Prior exposure to regulated financial environments is highly valued.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-evolving setting with excellent judgment and communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership capabilities.
  • Familiarity with digital asset accounting tools such as Cryptio, Haruko, or similar platforms is a plus.
