Asia Research Institute

We are seeking an enthusiastic and capable full time Research Assistant (6 months to 1 year contract) to assist the Principal Investigator, Prof Brenda Yeoh, on various migration-related projects (see Asian Migration for more information). You will be based at the Asia Research Institute (ARI), National University of Singapore (NUS), Singapore, and will also have the chance to work with an international team of migration scholars in the institute.

Job Description

The successful candidate will be involved in primary and secondary data collection, literature review, writing and editing reports, publications and materials, as well as assist with organising workshops and seminars.

Job Requirements
  • You should have at least a Bachelors or equivalent in the Social Sciences/Humanities.
  • Your research interests should fall within a relevant area of the social sciences (e.g. Migration Studies in the South-east Asian region).

The candidate should also possess the following:

  • Good administrative, organisational and team-building skills, and an aptitude for working in a Southeast Asian context;
  • Strong library research skills;
  • Excellent command of spoken and written English, and the ability to write for a variety of audiences;
  • Strong ability to perform editing work on manuscripts;
  • A willingness to play a co-ordinating role in liaising with different research members in the cluster/projects;
  • Language proficiency (both spoken and written) in Bahasa Indonesia or Tagalog is preferred. As one of the research projects conduct fieldwork and has research data in Bahasa Indonesian and Tagalog from the Philippines, we require research assistants with these language proficiencies.

The terms and conditions for the position are as follows:

  1. An all-inclusive and fixed salary which will commensurate with qualification and relevant working experience;
  2. Pro-rated holiday leave of up to 28 days per calendar year;
  3. Medical benefits entitlement.
