Senior Research Assistant

The Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) invites applications for multiple Research Assistant positions to support ongoing research in the fields of robotics, automation, and engineering design. These positions offer an exciting opportunity to work in singapore on interdisciplinary projects in the following areas:

• Design, synthesis, and analysis of novel robotic mechanisms
• Perception, planning, and control for robust field robotics
• Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM)
• Experimental robotics, prototyping, and deployment

Qualifications:

• Master’s degree (M.Eng. / M.Sc.) in Engineering Product Development, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or a related discipline
• Prior experience with robotics systems, demonstrated through hands-on projects, internships, or publications
• A strong interest in research and innovation with the ability to work independently and in a team

Skills and Competencies:

• Strong analytical thinking, debugging skills, and a detail-oriented approach to experimental work
• Experience with Robot Operating System (ROS/ROS2) and robotics middleware
• Familiarity with 3D perception tools (e.g., LiDAR, stereo/depth cameras) and sensor fusion techniques
• Understanding of motion planning algorithms, control systems, and real-time systems
• Hands-on experience with mechatronics, embedded systems, or hardware integration is a plus
• Exposure to CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Fusion 360) and simulation environments (e.g., Gazebo, V-REP, Isaac Sim)
• Effective communication and documentation skills
