Key Responsibilities

Select proper grinding wheels, set up fixtures and workpieces, and operate surface grinders to meet strict tolerances.
Use precision measuring instruments (micrometers, vernier calipers, dial indicators) to verify work pieces are within specs.
Perform routine maintenance, including cleaning, lubrication, and checking coolant levels.
Dress and shape grinding wheels for optimal performance and safety.
Read technical drawings, and job orders to determine the correct grinding techniques and sequence.
Adhere to safety guidelines, including using personal protective equipment (PPE) and proper wheel mounting procedures.

ii. Key Competencies & Skills

Understanding of metal properties (steel, aluminum, etc.) and grinding techniques.
High proficiency with measuring tools.
Ability to interpret GD&T symbols and tolerances.
Ability to identify machine malfunctions or deviations in parts.

iii. Common Qualifications & Physical Requirements

Proven experience as a surface grinder operator or in a similar machining role.
High school diploma or technical certification/apprenticeship.
Ability to stand for long periods and handle manual material handling.

Surface Grinding Machines (Manual or CNC).
Micrometers and Vernier Calipers.
Dial Indicators and Surface Plates.
