Performs duties of medical technologist. Assists HOD and assistant laboratory manager in ensuring high quality service in the management of all aspects of the laboratory.

• Performs laboratory functions as per job scope for medical technologist.
• Performs chromosome analysis including the description and interpretation of the normal and abnormal karyotypes.
• Assists assistant laboratory manager and laboratory manager in the preparations for yearly quality assessment programme and performs slide selection and evaluation as well as prepares the necessary required documents and statistical data.
• Assists assistant laboratory manager and laboratory manager in ensuring that quality assurance standards of the laboratory are maintained at all times.
• Assists assistant laboratory manager and laboratory manager in ensuring accurate, reliable and rapid results as well as quality service to doctors and patients at all times.
• Assists assistant laboratory manager and laboratory manager to provide guidance in technical aspects in medical technology to junior or new staff.

• Assists assistant laboratory manager and laboratory manager in maintaining record of incident reports.
• Assists assistant laboratory manager to ensure that Safety Data Sheet (SDS) documents are filed, updated and are accessible to all.
• Informs assistant laboratory manager and laboratory manager of any quality problems or potential quality problems that may arise so that preventive or corrective actions can be taken.
• Assists assistant laboratory manager and laboratory manager in checking the stock level of the laboratory supplies.
• Prepares and maintains statistical data of the laboratory whenever required.
• Performs any other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

• A recognized degree/ diploma in Science/ Medical related discipline.
• Able to work 5.5 half day work week
• Some working experience in a Cytogenetics/ Genetics laboratory.
• Good chromosome analysis skills.
• Accurate use of the International System for Human Cytogenetic Nomenclature in karyotype.
