Position Summary
We are seeking a proactive and technically skilled Laboratory Officer (Electrical & Electronics) to support the operation, maintenance, and integration of electrical and electronic systems within an ocean basin laboratory. This role is expected to provide expertise in instrumentation, wiring, and electronics for model tests, maintenance and operations of laboratory systems.Ideal for a Polytechnic graduate in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or Mechatronics, this role offers hands-on experience in a multidisciplinary research environment.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in the operations and maintenance of electrical and electronic components for basin systems, including:
- Wave makers and motion control systems
- Movable floors, towing carriages, and beach mechanisms
- Control panels, PLCs, and motor drives
- Perform wiring, troubleshooting, and diagnostics of electrical systems and ensure all work complies with electrical safety standards.
- Support the integration of sensors, instrumentation, and data acquisition systems (DAQ) into mechanical test setups.
- Monitor system status during testing and experiments; respond to electrical faults or system anomalies.
- Assist with the setup and calibration of signal conditioning devices, controllers, and automated systems.
- Actively participate in experimental activities and model testing
- Maintain up-to-date schematics, circuit diagrams, maintenance records, and SOPs.
- Collaborate with the mechanical team to ensure electro-mechanical systems function smoothly and reliably.
- Participate in the preventive maintenance program for all electrical and control systems in the lab.
- Support inventory management and procurement of electrical components, cables, and control devices.
- Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Mechatronics, or a related field from a recognized polytechnic.
- 2-5 years of hands-on experience in electrical system maintenance, automation, or lab support roles.
- Strong understanding of electrical safety, wiring standards, and control systems.
- Experience working with PLC systems, motor controllers, sensors, or DAQ hardware.
- Proficient in interpreting electrical schematics, circuit diagrams, and technical manuals.
- Familiarity with tools such as LabVIEW, MATLAB, Arduino, or similar platforms is an advantage.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
- Contribute to state-of-the-art marine and hydrodynamic research.
- Work with unique, large-scale electromechanical systems in a collaborative environment.
