Senior/Residential Care Associate (Sunbeam Place)

General Duties
  • Provide supervision, caregiving for their physical and psychological needs and guidance for the children and young persons (CYPs).
  • To ensure the smooth running of the Home/dormitory by providing a healing/therapeutic, clean, safe and healthy living environment.
  • Ensure residents attend school regularly.
  • Adopting the Trauma – Informed care approach by rewarding and encouraging the residents to display good behaviour.
  • Ensuring residents’ needs are well taken care of.
  • Any other admin tasks assigned by Reporting Officer.
Promote social & emotional development for the residents
  • Proactively design and Implement CYPs’ daily activities via planned daily schedule to promote bonding and social development (e.g. to plan/support Home in Home activities and circle time that improve relationships between residents and RCA, and inject teachable moments and imparting of values in these activities).
  • Develop rapport with the CYPs using creative methods and provide emotional support to them (e.g. to reach out to the CYPs individually on an intentional basis).
  • Encourage and reward positive behaviours, address unacceptable behaviour promptly and document CYPs’ good/unacceptable behaviours according to SBP behaviour management system (e.g. TI-PBIS framework).
Resident Management (Quality care and Supervision)
  1. Co-lead with Social Worker to ensure the resident’s safety, health & positive behaviour when they are in the Home and during outings & appointments.
  1. Monitor the residents to ensure that they are present in SBP or the activity that is being supervised (or their whereabouts to be made known when they are not at the Home) and verify, communicate and give permission for residents to leave areas or activities under your supervision when it is requested or required.
  2. Ensure that they follow and adhere to the structure in SBP.
  3. Monitor the residents to ensure that they are physically safe and do not partake in any risky behaviour or activities which may cause themselves or others physical injury – especially during playtime.
  4. Monitor & report to the Management of SBP of any complaints from residents, family members, volunteers, or visitors to the Home.
  5. Monitor & report to the Social Worker of any signs or suspicions of physical, sexual or emotional abuse or self-harm.
  6. Monitor & manage the behaviour of the residents by encouraging & rewarding good behaviour and by preventing, discouraging or addressing misbehaviour in strict adherence to the rules & discipline procedures of the Home.
  7. Teach and enforce rules and provide reminders about safe touch & unsafe touch; flag up to relevant staff of any behavioural concerns and issues.
Ensure Smooth Running of the Home
  • Responsible to maintain safe gate management procedures.
  • Responsible in updating home leave / visit procedures through the Home Management System (HMS).
  • Responsible to implement sign out for all visitors to the Home through the HMS.
  • Responsible to report any damages of property to the operations team.
  • Responsible to work on a roster system and inform team lead in advance when taking leave (e.g. Medical leave, Annual Leave and etc).
  • Report for shift on time.
  • Comply with the prevailing safe management practices and SOPs
  • To respond and update incident accordingly.
Support Team/Home's Operations
  • Represent RC team in specified workgroups/Home operations (as needed)
  • Support orientation of new RCAs into the routines and operational work

Requirements:

  • Diploma in any discipline
  • Preferably at least 1 year of relevant experience. Fresh graduates may also be considered.
  • Experience working or volunteering with children and youth groups will have an added advantage.
  • Able to interact positively with children and youths and enforce discipline in a fair and respectful manner.
  • Empathy and Patience and the ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
  • The ability to work well with others.
  • Good communication skills to interact with a diverse group of residents.
  • Good team player with a high level of initiative and independence.
  • Good interpersonal communication skills.
  • Able to do rotating shifts including night shifts.
  • Has a pleasant disposition and able to work independently and maintain a good working relationship with staff across teams.
