As a Secondary Library Assistant, you will extend strong administrative support towards our students’ learning, encouraging reading and research. You will help to create an inclusive environment where students feel comfortable, supported, and inspired.The Secondary Library is a lively and welcoming space at the heart of our secondary school and seeks an organised, approachable, and enthusiastic Library Assistant who enjoys supporting students and contributing to their learning journey.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the circulation of library resources, including checking books in and out.
- Support students and staff by assisting them in locating books and resources.
- Organise, sort, and shelve materials accurately in line with the library’s classification system.
- Process and catalogue new books and resources, ensuring records are kept up to date and accessible.
- Coordinate the repair and maintenance of library resources, including damaged books.
- Help maintain a calm, welcoming library environment for students and staff.
- Create and update attractive displays that showcase learning opportunities, reading themes, and school events.
- Communicate professionally and courteously with students, families, and colleagues.
- Provide ongoing support to library users during school hours and as required.
- Uphold and adhere to the school’s safeguarding policies and procedures at all times.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties assigned by the School Librarian or leadership team.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Recognized Diploma or equivalent
- Minimum 2 years related working experience is essential
- Confident and competent in the use of digital tools and technology, with the ability to work effectively in a Microsoft 365 (MS 365) environment.
- Genuine interest in the importance of literacy and promotion of the library service.
- Experience working in a library or school environment, with an understanding of effective space and resource management.
- Familiarity with using a Library Management System, including cataloguing and maintaining library records
- Available to start immediately
