Automation Engineer

About the Role:

We are hiring a Senior Automation Engineer with strong expertise in Emerson DeltaV Distributed Control Systems (DCS) to support automation projects and site operations within a GMP-regulated pharmaceutical/biopharmaceutical environment. The ideal candidate will lead automation design, implementation, troubleshooting, and lifecycle support for manufacturing and utility systems.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, configure, and maintain Emerson DeltaV DCS systems, including control modules, equipment modules, and batch configurations.
• Lead and execute automation-related changes including modification, testing, validation (CSV), and commissioning of control systems.
• Provide automation support for manufacturing operations, tech transfer, and capital projects (greenfield and brownfield).
• Troubleshoot automation system issues to minimise downtime and ensure compliance with GMP and safety requirements.
• Work closely with cross-functional teams including process engineering, QA, validation, and maintenance to deliver automation solutions aligned with operational needs.
• Develop and maintain automation documentation including functional specifications, design specifications, test protocols (FAT/SAT/IQ/OQ), and SOPs.
• Support the validation lifecycle of automation systems in accordance with GAMP 5 and regulatory expectations (e.g. 21 CFR Part 11).
• Drive improvements to system performance, alarm rationalisation, and cyber security posture of control systems.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to knowledge sharing within the automation team.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Chemical, Mechatronics, or Automation Engineering.
• Minimum 5+ years of hands-on experience with Emerson DeltaV systems in a GMP-regulated environment (pharma or biotech preferred).
• Strong understanding of batch processing, ISA-88 standards, and process control strategies.
• Experience with CSV, GAMP 5, and 21 CFR Part 11 compliance.
• Familiarity with integration of DeltaV with other systems (e.g., SCADA, MES, historians like PI) is a plus.
• Excellent troubleshooting, communication, and documentation skills.
• Ability to work independently on complex automation challenges and deliver solutions under time constraints.
