Job Purpose:

The Assistant Manager, Fleet Management is responsible for driving the technical and operational success of our workshop team. You will support the Operations and Fleet Manager by coordinating daily workflows, ensuring high levels of resource productivity, and maintaining a fleet of cranes in peak condition to meet our operational and financial targets.

Core Responsibilities:

  1. Team Leadership: People Development & Workplace Harmony
  • Actively identify skill gaps within the workshop and provide technical guidance or training recommendations to help staff improve their craftsmanship.
  • Mediate operational disagreements by focusing on facts and technical requirements rather than personal attributes. Ensure all grievances are heard and resolved in a transparent, non-discriminatory manner.
  • Establish a high-performance culture by ensuring all staff adhere to standard operating procedures (SOPs) and professional ethics, regardless of their seniority or background.
  1. Operational Oversight: Data-Driven Performance Management
  • Analyze the entire lifecycle of a repair—from intake to handover—to ensure documentation is seamless and that bottlenecks are proactively cleared.
  • Implement a performance review system based on merit-based indicators such as "time-to-repair," "safety compliance record," and "accuracy of technical reporting." This ensures rewards and promotions are based strictly on job performance and competency.
  1. Performance Monitoring: Strategic Reporting & Revenue Integrity
  • Bridge the gap between the workshop floor and the management. Translate technical challenges into clear status updates for senior management to assist in high-level decision-making.
  • Rigorously check service reports to ensure every hour worked and every part used is accounted for. This prevents revenue leakage and ensures clients are billed fairly and accurately for services rendered.
  1. Supply Coordination: Strategic Sourcing & Technical Readiness
  • Manage the procurement of high-value crane components (e.g., hydraulic pumps, wire ropes) by maintaining a balance between "just-in-time" delivery and "safety stock" to prevent operational paralysis.
  • Ensure that every technician has access to an adequacy and functionality of equipment and tools. You are responsible for the lifecycle of workshop equipment, including scheduled calibration and replacement of worn-out gear.
  1. Facility Management: Vendor Accountability & Infrastructure
  • Oversee vendors for specialized repairs (electrical grids, structural plumbing, environmental waste). Ensure they deliver "value for money" and that their work does not disrupt core workshop activities.
  • Manage workshop systems to ensure environmental compliance, such as proper oil disposal and hazardous waste management, in line with Singapore’s regulatory framework.
  1. Quality & Safety: Zero-Harm Culture & Rigorous QA
  • Lead the final quality control and checking process. No machine leaves the yard without your sign-off, ensuring that the work performed meets the highest safety and engineering standards.
  • Take an active leadership role in the Safety Committee. This involves conducting risk assessments for complex jobs and leading the Emergency Response Team to ensure all staff return home safely every day.
  1. Audit & Compliance: Institutional Integrity & Record-Keeping
  • Serve as the guardian of ISO standards (e.g., ISO 9001/45001). Conduct internal audits to ensure that "what we say we do" is "what we actually do" in every process.
  • Maintain a record for every crane in the fleet (end to end process, from licensing and maintenance history to incident logs), ensure the company is always audit-ready for MOM or BCA inspections.
  1. Cost Efficiency: Operational Lean Management
  • Ensure efficient use of resources and minimize costs by maximizing fuel efficiency. This reduces the total cost of ownership for the crane fleet.
  • Implement initiatives to reduce waste, such as fuel management systems for site-to-site vehicles and energy-efficient lighting/power usage within the workshop facility.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum an Executive Degree in Engineering, Business Management or Project Management or a related technical field.

Experience/ Proficiency:

  • Minimum of 5 years in a supervisory role within engineering or heavy equipment workshops.
  • Possess a valid Singapore Class 3 Driving License for essential site-to-site mobility locally.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to lead teams and solve complex operational problems.
  • Resourceful approach to time management and task prioritization.
  • Focus on delivering high-quality service and maintaining an inclusive work environment.
