Objective:

To ensure the safe, efficient, and cost-effective technical operation and maintenance of assigned ocean towing tugs (bollard pull 200 tons and above), in compliance with company policies, international maritime regulations, and client requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Vessel Maintenance & Repairs
  • Oversee daily technical performance of assigned vessels.
  • Plan and supervise routine and preventive maintenance schedules.
  • Troubleshoot technical problems and provide prompt resolution.
  • Ensure optimal availability and reliability of towing equipment (winches, tow wires, bollards, etc.).
Dry Docking & Major Repairs
  • Plan, prepare, and supervise dry-docking, including budgeting, specification writing, and vendor selection.
  • Coordinate with class societies and flag authorities during dockings.
Regulatory Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with all statutory and class requirements (IMO, SOLAS, MARPOL, Flag State, etc.).
  • Liaise with classification societies and port authorities for surveys and inspections.
  • Maintain up-to-date certificates for all assigned vessels.
Budgeting & Cost Control
  • Prepare annual technical budgets for vessels.
  • Monitor and control expenditure within approved limits.
  • Review and approve technical-related invoices.
Procurement & Inventory
  • Coordinate procurement of spare parts, equipment, and lubricants.
  • Ensure optimal inventory levels and stock control on board.
  • Evaluate vendor performance and cost-effectiveness.
Crew Support & Training
  • Work closely with Masters and Chief Engineers to resolve technical issues.
  • Provide technical guidance to vessel crews.
  • Monitor crew compliance with planned maintenance systems (PMS).
Emergency Response & Troubleshooting
  • Be available 24/7 for emergency response and technical support.
  • Investigate incidents and assist in root cause analysis and corrective actions.
Project Support
  • Support newbuild, conversion, or upgrade projects relevant to towing capability, fuel efficiency, or safety

Qualifications and Experience:

Education:

  • Marine Engineering Degree or Class 1 Certificate of Competency (Motor) preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of sea-going experience as a Chief Engineer on offshore tugs / anchor handlers Or 3 years shore-based experience as Technical Superintendent in offshore or towing operations.

Technical Skills:

  • Strong understanding of towing systems, propulsion (including CPP/FPP), and auxiliary equipment.
  • Familiar with planned maintenance systems (e.g., AMOS, TM Master, ABS NS)
  • Knowledge of ISM Code, ISPS, MLC, and other maritime regulations.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Leadership and decision-making under pressure.
  • Financial and budgetary awareness.
  • Ability to travel frequently and attend vessels at short notice.

Preferred Certifications:

  • DP Maintenance certificate
  • Internal Auditor (ISM/ISPS/MLC)
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001, 14001, 45001 standards
