Technical Superintendent (Chemical Tanker)

The Opportunity:

We are seeking an experienced Technical Superintendent to ensure the safe, efficient, and cost-effective technical management of assigned chemical tankers, ensuring compliance with international regulations, company policies, and charterers' requirements, while maintaining the vessel's seaworthiness, performance, and condition.

The Job:

• Oversee the technical operation and maintenance of assigned chemical tankers.
• Monitor and manage vessel performance (e.g., fuel consumption, machinery condition, maintenance schedules).
• Coordinate and support vessels in dry-docking, repairs, and major overhauls.
• Plan and execute scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, in line with Planned Maintenance System (PMS).
• Supervise and manage dry-docking operations including preparation of specification, budgeting, and execution.
• Ensure vessel compliance with IMO regulations, flag state, class, PSC inspections, and company safety standards.
• Assist with vetting inspections, audits (SIRE/CDI), and manage closure of findings.
• Liaise with ship staff, suppliers, and service providers to ensure timely supply of spares, stores, and services.
• Monitor technical budgets, OPEX, and deliver cost-effective solutions without compromising safety.
• Provide technical input during inspections, incidents, and voyage planning (e.g., cargo compatibility, tank coating).
• Assist in crew training and technical support to shipboard teams.
• Maintain close communication with chartering, HSEQ, and operations departments.

The Talent:

• Class 1 Marine Engineer COC or equivalent naval architecture/engineering degree.
• Additional certifications in ISM/ISPS, vetting (CDI/SIRE), or HAZMAT handling are advantageous.
• Minimum 3-5 years' sailing experience on chemical tankers (as Chief Engineer preferred).
• 2-5 years' experience in shore-based technical superintendent role handling IMO Type II/III chemical tankers.
• Familiarity with CDI, SIRE vetting, and TMSA frameworks.

Skills:

• Strong technical knowledge of marine engines, pumps, IG systems, coated/stainless steel tanks, etc.
• Good understanding of cargo compatibility, tank cleaning procedures, and loading operations.
• Effective communicator with the ability to lead, manage, and support multinational crew.
• Budgeting, reporting, and project management skills.
• Proficient in MS Office, ship management software (e.g., AMOS, Sertica, TM Master).
