Systems Engineer (Oracle 19c | Windows/Unix | Operations) — 1 Year Contract
About the role
We are hiring an Application Support / Systems Engineer to take ownership of the operational support and reliability of multiple enterprise application products. You will support day-to-day operations, patching, monitoring, troubleshooting, and database administration (Oracle/MSSQL) in a production environment with strong uptime and security requirements.
This role suits someone with a solid infrastructure and operations foundation who is comfortable supporting mission-critical systems, engaging build teams on integration points, and responding to incidents (including after-hours support when required).
Key responsibilities- Own operational support for multiple application products (e.g., WebSphere, IBM MQ, QlikSense, SharePoint, Pega, etc.).
- Perform OS-level patching and application-level patching, plus operational housekeeping (archival, cleanup, monitoring).
- Support backup and recovery processes and ensure operational readiness.
- Participate in application architecture and technical discussions with build teams; provide inputs on integration points (web services, MQ interfaces, SFTP).
- Troubleshoot and resolve application and/or infrastructure issues; provide onsite support when incidents occur (including after office hours, as needed).
- Monitor and maintain IT system and application assets; ensure stability, availability, and performance.
- Administer databases including Oracle 19c and MSSQL (patching, monitoring, performance checks, operational support).
- Basic networking knowledge (connectivity, ports, routing concepts, troubleshooting).
- Basic server administration for Windows and Unix/Linux operating systems.
- Understanding of enterprise 3-tier architecture (front-end, application tier, database tier).
- Ability to support the design/setup/configuration of fault-tolerant, highly available systems.
- Minimum 2 years of Oracle 19c database administration experience.
- Familiar with Agile processes/tools and SDLC support.
- Scripting for automation/troubleshooting (Bash, Python, PowerShell).
- Understanding of web applications end-to-end (user interaction → app servers → databases).
- Knowledge of virtualization, containerisation, and cloud infrastructure.
- Familiar with IT security hardening and vulnerability assessment practices.
- Practical experience with Oracle GoldenGate (OGG).
- Ability to interpret Oracle AWR reports for performance analysis.
