We are seeking a skilled and motivated Electrical Engineer to join our team within the construction sector in Singapore. The Electrical Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing electrical systems and installations for construction projects.

This includes ensuring compliance with local regulations, managing project timelines, and collaborating with other engineers, contractors, and stakeholders to deliver safe and efficient electrical systems. The ideal candidate should have a strong technical background, experience in construction projects, and a problem-solving mindset.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Electrical Design and Planning:

Design Electrical Systems: Develop and design electrical systems and infrastructure, including power distribution, lighting, fire alarm systems, and other electrical services for construction projects.

Load Calculations and Power Distribution: Perform load calculations, design electrical circuits, and plan power distribution systems that meet the project's requirements and adhere to safety standards.

Schematic Diagrams: Prepare detailed electrical schematics, circuit diagrams, and wiring layouts to be used in construction documentation and project execution.

Compliance with Standards: Ensure that electrical designs meet Singapore's local building codes, safety regulations, and industry standards (e.g., SS 638, BS, IEC).
  1. Project Coordination and Management:

Liaise with Project Teams: Collaborate with architects, mechanical engineers, construction managers, and other project stakeholders to integrate electrical systems into overall building designs.

Site Inspections: Conduct regular site visits and inspections to ensure that electrical installations are being carried out according to plans, designs, and safety standards.

Monitoring and Quality Control: Ensure the quality of materials and electrical installations by monitoring construction work and performing quality control checks. Ensure that installation schedules are met.

Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve issues or challenges during construction or installation phases, including any electrical faults or discrepancies between design and on-site conditions.
  1. Electrical Installation and Testing:

Oversee Electrical Installations: Supervise the installation of electrical systems such as lighting, power outlets, cable trays, distribution boards, transformers, generators, and fire alarm systems, ensuring all installations are executed efficiently and safely.

Testing and Commissioning: Oversee testing of electrical systems to ensure they meet performance standards. Conduct inspections, troubleshooting, and ensure compliance with safety procedures during commissioning.

Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of electrical system designs, installation, testing, and project progress. Prepare and submit regular reports to project managers on the status of electrical work and any deviations from the plan.

  1. Health, Safety, and Compliance:

Ensure Safety Standards: Monitor and enforce adherence to health and safety regulations for all electrical works on-site, including the safe handling of electrical equipment and materials.

Risk Assessments: Conduct risk assessments for electrical installations and systems, ensuring that risks are minimized, and safe working practices are followed at all stages of the project.

Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that electrical systems and installations comply with Singapore's regulations, including the Electrical Wiring Regulations (EWR), Code of Practice for Electrical Installations, and relevant international standards.

  1. Cost Management and Budgeting:

Cost Estimation: Assist in preparing cost estimates and budgets for electrical work in construction projects. This includes determining material costs, labor costs, and equipment requirements.

Procurement Support: Work with procurement teams to source materials, equipment, and services needed for electrical systems, ensuring that they meet specifications and are cost-effective.

Manage Electrical Budget: Track the electrical budget throughout the project, identifying areas for cost savings while maintaining quality and compliance.
  1. Maintenance and Operations:

Post-Construction Support: After the completion of the project, provide support for the maintenance and operation of electrical systems. This includes troubleshooting issues, conducting maintenance checks, and making necessary adjustments.

Ongoing Improvements: Recommend improvements or upgrades to electrical systems for future projects or based on client feedback and operational needs.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

Education:

A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field from a recognized university or institution.

A Master’s degree or certification in specialized electrical engineering fields (e.g., power systems, renewable energy) is a plus.

Experience:

A minimum of 2 years of experience as an electrical engineer, with a focus on electrical design and installation in the construction industry.

Proven experience working on large-scale construction projects (commercial, residential, or industrial) is highly preferred.

Familiarity with electrical engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, ETAP, or similar) is beneficial.

Technical Knowledge:

Strong knowledge of electrical design principles, electrical systems, and power distribution in construction projects.

In-depth understanding of local and international electrical codes, standards, and safety regulations (e.g., SS638, NEC, IEC, etc.).

Hands-on experience in electrical systems testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting.

Key Skills:

Problem-Solving:

Ability to think critically and solve complex electrical issues during the design and construction phases.

Attention to Detail:

Ensure precision in electrical designs and installations. Electrical engineers must identify and resolve discrepancies to avoid costly errors.
