Job Description:

The Optics and Imaging Systems (OIS) Group is a one-stop provider of automated optical inspection technologies. The Group carries out collaborative research with academic institutions, co-develops equipment and devices with companies, and provide technical services and training to the manufacturing industry. The OIS Group is seeking a highly motivated mechanical engineer to support the design, development, and integration of advanced machine vision systems for industrial inspection. This role will contribute to both mechanical prototyping and system-level vision design as part of a multidisciplinary team working at the forefront of imaging and optics innovation for the manufacturing industry. The candidate will work closely with optics, imaging, and electronics engineers to support the Group's research and development efforts, with focus in the following areas:

  • Mechanical and opto-mechanical design for machine vision hardware
  • Integration of imaging components and modules into full inspection systems
  • Vision system architecture and design
  • Development and assembly of functional prototypes for lab testing and industrial pilots

The key roles and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Support the mechanical design, assembly, and integration of high-resolution imaging systems
  • Contribute to vision system architecture, working alongside optical and software teams
  • Perform tolerance analysis, thermal/mechanical stability assessments, and support testing
  • Collaborate on system prototyping, lab testing, and industrial deployment
  • Work with research scientists and engineers to translate concept designs into manufacturable hardware
  • Support documentation of designs, drawings, and specifications for prototyping and scale-up

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Physics or related discipline (both recent graduates and candidates with up to 2 years' experience are encouraged to apply)
  • Fundamentals in mechanical design and familiarity with design for precision optical or imaging systems will be preferred
  • Experience with 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, ANSYS, Autocad or similar)
  • Strong interest or exposure to vision systems or machine vision hardware is advantageous
  • Basic understanding of optics or imaging systems is a plus, but not mandatory
  • Strong team player with good problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills
  • Eagerness to learn, adapt to new technologies, and contribute across disciplines in a fast-paced R&D environment
