Global Centre for Maritime Decarbonisation (GCMD)
The Global Centre for Maritime Decarbonisation (GCMD) was established as a non-profit organisation on 1 August 2021 with a mission to support the decarbonisation of the maritime industry by shaping standards, deploying solutions, financing projects, and fostering collaboration across sectors.
Founded by six industry partners namely BHP, BW Group, Eastern Pacific Shipping, Foundation Det Norske Veritas, Ocean Network Express and Seatrium (formerly Sembcorp Marine), GCMD also receives funding from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) for qualifying research and development programmes and projects.To-date, over 100 centre- and project-level partners have joined GCMD – contributing funds, expertise, and in-kind support to accelerate the deployment of scalable low-carbon technologies and lowering adoption barriers.
GCMD is strategically located in Singapore, the world’s largest bunkering hub and second largest container port.
RESPONSIBILITIES
We are seeking a proactive and technically astute manager to drive the use of data in accelerating maritime decarbonisation. You will lead hands-on data analytics to generate technical insights, with an initial focus on energy-efficiency technologies (EET) and quantifying savings.Working across multiple initiatives and partners, you’ll translate fragmented datasets into actionable insights, reusable tools, and decision support—partnering closely with the Project Director.
Data Analysis & Technology Assessment- Conduct in-depth data analysis on EET performance estimation using the data collected onboard ships.
- Establish a data pipeline, data management plan and standardised scripts to replicate the analysis across different energy efficiency technologies.
- Establish good practices for data cleaning and quality assurance.
- This role will also support other initiatives such as biofuels and ammonia as a marine fuel to analyse the data being generated from the pilots and trials.
- Explore opportunities to utilise data analytics to add value to these projects.
- Create reusable templates (functions, notebooks, plotting utilities) with versioned documentation to enable repeatable analyses across GCMD initiatives.
- Explore opportunities to utilise data analytics to speed up the progress towards decarbonization.
- Engage with industry to understand current practices and gaps in utilisation of data.
- Support Project Director to identify pilots and trials where data analytics can play a key role.
- Support Project Director to define project scope, objectives, and deliverable in collaboration with stakeholders.
- Develop detailed project plans, schedules, and budgets.
- Identify project resources and assign tasks.
- Monitor project progress, communicate project status, updates, meeting minutes.
- 4–6 years in data analytics (or adjacent fields like product/operations/industrial analytics) with strong hands-on Python.
- Experience wrangling real-world datasets (missing data, outliers, unit/format inconsistencies, time-series alignment).
- Maritime exposure (AIS, noon reports, fuel/bunker, voyage/charter, weather, port calls) would be a plus.
- Experience in developing and managing technical projects.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to build trust and influence action.
- Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work independently and as part of a team.
