Legal Counsel (Full-time/Part-time)

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
Internal: General Counsel and Company Secretary, Australian-based legal counsel and legal intern, Singaporean team, Australian Head of People and Culture, AKG group country leaders, finance team, UK management team.
External: Law firms, government regulatory bodies, Singaporean company secretary services provider.
KEY POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
AKG is a group of entities operating across 7 countries worldwide in the employment, health and wellbeing, education and community sectors with a focus on empowering people.
Responsible for providing support to the Legal and Company Secretariat functions of AKG including the following:
- Provide timely and practical legal advice across a broad range of matters including contracts, compliance, commercial law, privacy and employment law.
- Draft, review and negotiate a range of commercial and operational contracts, including service agreements and employment contracts.
- Support the General Counsel in managing legal risks, litigation matters and regulatory compliance across the organisation.
- Monitor developments in the legal and regulatory environment and advise stakeholders on potential impacts.
- Assist with corporate governance matters, including preparation of Board papers and coordination with external company secretary providers for ACRA-related filings.
- Develop legal templates, policies and documentation to support operational teams and ensure compliance with organisational requirements.
- Work closely with the global legal team and internal stakeholders on legal projects, risk management initiatives and organisational improvement efforts.
- Review contracts for regional entities including the UK and Australia and coordinate with external legal counsel where required.
- Qualified to practice law
- Private practice or in-house legal experience (at least 3 years)
- Experience in UK law is highly desirable
- Strong contractual drafting and review skills
- Well-versed in how businesses operate with some financial acumen
- High degree of professional ethics and integrity
- Excellent judgement and analytical skills
- Ability to anticipate legal issues or risks
- Ability to multitask and prioritise projects
- Highly developed understanding of contractual risk, corporate governance principles, risk management concepts, and compliance requirements and concepts.
