Toa Payoh - Business Development Manager
Hartree Partners is a global energy and commodities trading firm with a growing presence in the Asia-Pacific energy transition landscape. We are seeking a commercially driven professional to join our Singapore office as a Business Development Manager, supporting both the Environmental Products team.
This role is designed for a candidate with strong origination and business development capabilities, supported by a solid understanding of corporate or structured finance. The successful candidate will play a critical role in identifying, developing, and executing structured commercial transactions across APAC environmental markets, primarily Australia and New Zealand.
Key Responsibilities
Origination & Business Development- Proactively source and originate new structured opportunities across environmental markets value chains, including ACCUs and NZUs.
- Utilise the candidates existing relationships and approach new counterparties, including developers, corporates, utilities, and intermediaries, to develop commercially viable structures and partnerships.
- Conduct early-stage commercial assessments and client engagement, leading opportunity development from concept to execution.
- Manage the drafting, review, and negotiation of commercial documentation such as term sheets, ISDAs, and long-form contracts.
- Develop financial models and commercial structures to support deal pricing, valuation, and risk-reward analysis.
- Assess key risk components of proposed transactions including market, credit, regulatory, and operational risks.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the environmental product markets, including developments in carbon pricing, regulatory schemes, renewable electricity, and environmental certificates across APAC.
- Represent Hartree in market discussions, industry forums, and bilateral meetings to stay informed and identify emerging opportunities.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is a self-starter with a strong track record in commercial origination, deal execution, and market development in the energy, environmental, or commodities sectors. The role requires someone who can confidently identify and shape opportunities, build counterparty relationships, and drive transactions forward with limited supervision.
Required Skills & Experience- 1–10 years of experience in business development, origination, trading, or structured transactions in energy, commodities, or carbon markets.
- Proven ability to originate, negotiate, and close complex commercial transactions withing the Australia and New Zealand carbon markets.
- Solid understanding of structured finance, corporate valuation, and risk assessment.
- Experience with transaction documentation (e.g., ISDA, term sheets) and stakeholder coordination across legal, credit, and trading teams.
- Strong commercial instincts and relationship-building skills across multiple stakeholder levels.
- Familiarity with APAC carbon markets is highly preferred with existing counterparty relationships.
- Ability to track and manage trade performance and develop actionable trading strategies.
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, engineering, or related field; postgraduate qualifications (e.g., MBA, CFA) are advantageous.
- Willingness to travel across Asia-Pacific as required.
