JOB SUMMARY:
Detail-oriented to manage and maintain financial records, ensure compliance with regulations, and support financial planning and analysis.
Highly analytical Data Analyst to interpret data and turn it into information that can offer ways to improve business decisions. The role involves data collection, processing, and reporting to help guide strategic and operational decisions.
Main Responsibilities and Duties:
- Financial Reporting
- Prepare Financial Statements: Financial analysts often compile and review financial statements, such as the balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow statement, ensuring they reflect an accurate picture of the company’s financial performance.
- Variance Analysis: They compare actual financial results to budgeted or forecasted figures and explain any deviations. This helps management understand what caused the differences (e.g., higher sales, increased costs, etc.).
- Monthly and Quarterly Reporting: Analysts regularly prepare monthly and quarterly financial reports, summarizing key performance indicators (KPIs) for senior management and stakeholders.
- Data Collection & Financial Modeling
- Collecting Data: Analysts gather financial data from internal systems, accounting departments, or external sources (e.g., market data, industry reports, etc.).
- Building Financial Models: Using spreadsheets or specialized software (e.g., Excel, Tableau, or more advanced tools), financial analysts build financial models that help project future financial performance, including budgeting, forecasting, and valuation models.
- Scenario Analysis: They perform sensitivity and scenario analysis to assess how changes in assumptions or variables (e.g., interest rates, market conditions) affect financial outcomes.
- Budgeting and Forecasting
- Budget Preparation: Financial analysts assist in the preparation of annual and quarterly budgets by analyzing historical financial data, market trends, and business goals.
- Forecasting: They provide financial forecasts, which include projecting revenue, expenses, cash flow, and profit. This helps companies plan for future operations and make informed business decisions.
- Cost Control: Analysts often work with different departments to ensure that actual expenses align with budgetary expectations and suggest measures for cost optimization.
- Financial Analysis & Decision Support
- Profitability Analysis: Analysts assess the profitability of different business units, products, or services and provide recommendations on how to improve margins or reduce inefficiencies.
- Capital Allocation: They assess investment opportunities, ensuring that capital is allocated effectively to achieve maximum return on investment (ROI). This might involve evaluating the financial viability of new projects or investments.
- Investment Appraisal: Financial analysts use tools such as Net Present Value (NPV), Internal Rate of Return (IRR), and Payback Period to evaluate potential investments and their financial viability.
- Risk Management & Compliance
- Risk Assessment: Analysts help identify financial risks (e.g., currency fluctuations, interest rate risks, credit risks) and suggest measures to mitigate those risks.
- Regulatory Compliance: They ensure that financial reporting and analysis comply with relevant accounting standards (e.g., GAAP, IFRS) and regulatory requirements (e.g., SEC regulations).
- Audit Preparation: Financial analysts assist in preparing for audits by ensuring financial statements and records are accurate and well-documented.
- Market & Economic Research
- Industry Analysis: Analysts perform market research, keeping up with industry trends, economic indicators, and competitor performance, providing insights that impact the company’s financial strategy.
- Macroeconomic Trends: They track global and regional economic conditions (e.g., inflation, unemployment, exchange rates) to predict how these factors might impact the company’s performance.
- Stakeholder Communication & Presentation
- Presenting Financial Data: Financial analysts are often required to present their findings and analyses to internal stakeholders, including senior management and department heads.
- Making Recommendations: Based on their analysis, analysts provide actionable insights and recommendations for improving financial performance, optimizing costs, or identifying new opportunities.
- Client Interaction (if applicable): In roles such as investment banking or asset management, analysts may interact with clients to explain financial models, strategies, and market conditions.
- Performance Monitoring & KPIs
- Tracking Financial Metrics: Analysts monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as profit margins, ROI, EBITDA, liquidity ratios, and others to assess the company's financial health.
- Performance Dashboards: Some analysts create and maintain financial dashboards that visually represent financial data and KPIs for easier interpretation by executives and decision-makers.
- Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) Support
- Due Diligence: Analysts often support M&A activities by conducting financial due diligence, reviewing financial statements, and assessing the financial health of potential target companies.
- Valuation: They conduct valuations using various methods (e.g., discounted cash flow, comparable company analysis) to assess the target company’s worth.
- Investment Research (for Investment Analysts)
- Stock and Bond Analysis: For analysts in investment roles, they might research individual securities, companies, or investment portfolios, providing insights into potential investment opportunities.
- Asset Allocation: They assist in creating optimal investment portfolios by analyzing risk and return profiles of different asset classes.
- Monitoring Portfolio Performance: They track the performance of the company’s or clients' investment portfolios, making adjustments as needed to align with financial goals.
Key qualifications:
- Diploma in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or related field.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and insights to make informed decisions.
- Strong understanding of financial analysis, forecasting, and reporting.
- Excellent attention to detail for accuracy and reporting Strong problem-solving skills to analyze the complex data and effective solutions.
- Time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Bilingually proficient in Vietnamese and English, both in writing and speaking, and other languages will be an advantage.
