Senior Process Engineer (Biopharma / Life Science)
The Opportunity:
Our client is a global leader in the design, engineering, and delivery of high-tech facilities. With over a century of experience, they specialize in "controlled environments" for the world's most demanding industries, including semiconductors, batteries, and pharmaceuticals.
The firm is renowned for handling mega-projects from concept to "turnkey" completion. Their business nature is rooted in high-end technical consultancy and complex project management, providing sustainable and innovative engineering solutions that allow life-sciences companies to bring life-saving treatments to market faster and more safely.
The Job:
The Process Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, and optimization of complex process systems within a state-of-the-art pharmaceutical manufacturing environment. You will bridge the gap between initial concept design and the final construction and commissioning phases, ensuring all systems meet stringent global regulatory standards (FDA/EMA) and client-specific requirements.
Design & Engineering- Develop and review Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) for pharmaceutical processes (e.g., Fill-Finish, USP/DSP, Clean Utilities).
- Perform mass and energy balance calculations and equipment sizing (reactors, heat exchangers, pumps, and filtration systems).
- Specify and select process equipment, ensuring compatibility with hygienic design standards and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
- Collaborate with the architecture and HVAC teams to ensure the process layout integrates seamlessly within cleanroom classifications.
- Manage the technical aspects of the High Purity Water (WFI/PW) and Clean Steam systems.
- Ensure that all process designs comply with local and international safety and environmental regulations (e.g., ASME BPE).
- Support the CQV (Commissioning, Qualification, and Validation) team in developing the Validation Master Plan.
- Participate in HAZOP (Hazard and Operability) studies and risk assessments to ensure inherently safe design.
- Review 3D models and conduct spatial coordination to resolve clashes in complex piping networks.
The Talent:
- Education: Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Chemical, Process, or Mechanical Engineering.
- Experience: 3-7 years of experience in process design specifically within the Life Sciences or Pharmaceutical industry.
- Technical Knowledge:
- Deep understanding of ISPE guidelines and cGMP environments.
- Experience with process simulation software and 2D/3D design tools (AutoCAD, Revit, or Plant 3D).
- Knowledge of specialized systems: CIP (Clean-in-Place), SIP (Steam-in-Place), and bioreactor skid integration.
- Soft Skills: Strong analytical thinking, excellent stakeholder management, and the ability to work within a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) environment.
