Senior Underwriter, Marine

Job Purpose
Assist in the day to day operation of the Marine underwriting team and provide support to the Marine Underwriting Manager.
Underwriting
Contribute to a profitable portfolio of marine business in accordance with HDI Global SE, Singapore underwriting principals, guidelines and disciplines.- Assist in the growth objectives of the portfolio by identifying opportunities and performing delegated tasks.
- Underwrite Marine business in accordance with the company’s philosophy and those standards set down in the respective product manuals.
- Identify referral triggers according to HDI Global SE, Singapore Underwriting Guidelines and local branch underwriting authority.
- Issue and review of policy wordings.
- Operate strictly within any delegated underwriting authority and underwriting guidelines.
- Review of all new business opportunities and risks due for renewal.
- Identify opportunities for growth through the existing portfolio and assisting the Underwriting Manager Marine with the development and maintenance of the Marine LOB pipeline.
- Develop an underwriting rationale with recommendations to the Underwriting Manager Marine, for all allocated cases where applicable.
Marketing
Contribute to the positive promotion of the HDI Global SE, Singapore brand, provide feedback for internal purposes as well as building strong relationships and networks with the medium sized brokers in the insurance market.- Visit Clients and Brokers to develop and maintain strong relationships.
- Develop pipeline, growth strategies and business plan
- Attend customer and broker presentations as required by the Underwriting Manager Marine.
- Attendance at appropriate conferences, seminars, discussion groups, involvement in industry bodies considered beneficial to the company, subject to approval by the Underwriting Manager Marine.
- Communicate the HDI Global SE, Singapore story and philosophy clearly to the market.
- Communicate the marine underwriting appetite precisely to brokers.
Administration
To contribute to the performance of the Marine team through ensuring compliant and clear processes are adhered to in a consistent manner.- Preparation of appropriate reports on portfolio performance.
- Periodic reports as required for local and overseas management.
- Completion of appropriate underwriting worksheets, premium calculation detail and risk information for systems input.
- Follow up of outstanding closings and wording as required.
- Issue policies and endorsements where appropriate.
- Monitor all outstanding quotations and pending renewals, tracking and updating progress via the maintenance of the renewal and quotation register.
- Ensure that risks underwritten fall within HDI Global SE, Singapore Underwriting Guidelines.
- Assistance in seeking special acceptance under the reinsurance treaties via application where required by the nature of risk being insured by HDI Global SE, Singapore.
- Any facultative reinsurance is subject to prior approval by the Underwriting Manager Marine, Singapore and the Managing Director.
- Has a minimum of 5 years insurance experience
- Has appropriate formal qualifications
- Demonstrated knowledge of the marine insurance industry.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Proven sales ability with a strong emphasis on customer service.
- Passion for delivering excellent service and building lasting relationships.
