Middle Office Analyst

Job Overview:

This role provides analysis for all P&L reporting. The position ensures the accuracy of incoming trade data, reference data, price feeds and will resolve any discrepancies to ensure accurate and timely reporting of P&L to upper management. Position will work closely with all areas including Front Office, Back Office, Market Risk, Accounting/Finance and Executive team.

The position will analyze and apply market risk and P&L data from various systems/sources to review patterns and advise on behaviors and reactions to help drive business and strategy decisions. The position will not only manage the reconciliation and production of P&L but will use the data to provide analysis and guidance to business leaders and desk heads to optimize profits.

Responsibilities
  • Review, and assist in daily reconciliation and production of P&L reporting.
  • Ability to clearly explain all aspects of P&L reporting for all business lines to upper management.
  • Update/maintain reference data, book structure, mapping, etc, price feeds to ensure integrity of ETRM.
  • Analyze new trade activity, associated risks and the P&L generated and understand any changes coming from market moves on the existing portfolio of trades.
  • Preparation of daily price files from multiple sources, such as Bloomberg, Platts, trader derived marks, etc. Ensure price uploads and other data feed without error.
  • Ensure all estimates, P&L attribution and reporting is sent within internal deadlines and timelines.
  • Reconciliation of daily P&L outs between trader estimate and actual P&L run.
  • Works closely with various areas of the finance department, liaising with the Trading Desk, Risk Management, Operations, Middle Office, and IT Teams.
  • Use effective escalation to ensure issues are highlighted in a timely manner. Focus on recurring issues and drive through enhancement project and systems fixes.
  • Develops an enquiring and questioning mind-set.
  • Exploits a collaborative and motivating attitude to work with colleagues.
  • Great attention to detail to go beyond what the data tell you in terms of effectiveness.
  • Document all processes and procedures to ensure efficient daily Middle Office operations with proper continuity.
Requirements and Skills
  • At least 3 years of relevant professional experience. Commodities experience preferred.
  • P&L analysis experience preferred.
  • Accurate and confident analytical and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of or demonstrated interest in financial products is an advantage.
  • University or college degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Actuarial Science is a preferred.
  • Advanced Excel skills required with ability to demonstrated analyzing large raw sets of data using: Pivot tables, vlookups, hlookups, formulas (sumifs, etc.), manipulating AND building VBA macros. Other coding (like SQL) is a plus.
  • Extremely detail oriented.
  • Ability to prioritize daily tasks according to business need, in collaboration with Traders and other desks.
  • Ability to work extended hours during certain nights per week.
