Job Summary
The Mechanical Engineer in Topsides Mechanical Equipment leads complex engineering projects, delivers innovative solutions, ensures compliance with industry standards, and mentors junior engineers. This role supports project execution from design to implementation and interfaces with clients and stakeholders globally.
Responsibilities- Lead selection of package equipment/skid/module during conceptual design and conduct studies in basic and detailed engineering phases to optimize project outcomes.
- Prepare and review engineering deliverables including specifications, datasheets, RFQs, and TBEs for pumps, compressors, gas turbines, engines, and offshore machinery.
- Evaluate vendor proposals, prepare technical bid clarifications, participate in clarification meetings, and approve vendor data and deliverables to ensure technical compliance.
- Provide expert advice in Package Engineering throughout conceptual, basic, and detailed engineering phases to support project success.
- Conduct risk assessments and manufacturing facility visits to gather data supporting detailed engineering and to assess manufacturing constraints, testing, and lead times.
- Develop and maintain standard specifications and procedures for design, manufacturing, supply, installation, commissioning, and integrity management of rotating equipment.
- Participate in project planning, scheduling, and progress tracking to ensure timely and quality project delivery.
- Resolve technical issues during fabrication, installation, and commissioning phases to maintain project momentum.
- Mentor and support junior engineers and designers, reviewing their work to ensure quality and accuracy.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical problems encountered during project execution to minimize delays and risks.
- Engage in design reviews, risk assessments, and technical discussions to ensure robust engineering solutions.
- Respond to queries from clients, contractors, and internal teams regarding rotating equipment technical aspects.
- Prepare formal responses to classification societies and client comments on specifications and drawings to maintain compliance.
- Coordinate with fabrication, installation, commissioning, and operations teams to resolve technical issues and ensure smooth project execution.
- Maintain accurate records of design changes, decisions, and project milestones for traceability and quality assurance.
- Ensure all project documentation complies with quality management systems and project requirements.
- Prepare project schedules and progress reports to monitor and communicate project status effectively.
- Travel internationally to the US, Europe, and/or Asia as required to support project needs and client engagement.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical or related Engineering.
- Proven experience in offshore or onshore oil and gas industry projects.
- Experience working at top-tier FPSO contractors or Offshore/Onshore EPC contractors, with at least 5–7 consecutive years in the same contractor.
- Experience managing FPSO EPCI projects from engineering start through sail-away or delivery.
- Hands-on expertise in Mechanical Static or Package engineering for FPSO or Offshore EPCI projects, including RFT document preparation, tender process management, vendor coordination, and construction/commissioning support.
- Strong knowledge of Mechanical Static or Package engineering practices, industry codes, standards, and scientific problem-solving methods.
- Strong leadership skills to manage multiple priorities and lead teams effectively.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to address complex engineering challenges.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Effective communication skills in English, both oral and written, to engage with co-workers, vendors, and clients.
- Hands-on Field Engineering experience during construction or onshore/offshore commissioning phases is an advantage.
