Process Safety Engineer, APAC

Summary:

The Process Safety Engineer is responsible for ensuring compliance with Process Safety Management (PSM) regulations and company requirements. Overall responsibility includes the effective application of process safety related programs, developing innovative solutions for evolving standards, establishing, and fostering a healthy and effective process safety culture, and managing risks.

The Position:

• Continuous improvement of the Process Safety Management program and Process Safety risk analysis, as required
• Schedule, lead and document the Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) / hazard evaluations for new and existing processes.
• Perform Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA) to determine if the risk of an incident scenario is low enough to meet company requirements.
• Facilitate and participate in compliance review audits with governmental agencies and third-party personnel. Maintain proactive and positive relations with regulatory agencies, trade organizations, and community stakeholders.
• Develop, implement, and provide process safety training and monitor compliance with training requirements.
• Perform technical reviews of proposed new projects and process changes to identify and communicate any Process Safety ramifications.
• Report on status of process safety incidents to management, lead investigations related to these incidents / near misses, and coordinate development of corrective actions based upon investigations.
• Provide oversight of the Management of Change (MOC) and Pre-Start-up Safety Review (PSSR) process.
• Perform routine monitoring of documentation to ensure compliance with the process safety requirements, including written procedures, Process Safety Information (PSI), and closure of PHA and audit action items.
• Conduct site Atmospheres Explosives (ATEX) zoning and equipment classification.
• Facilitate and participate in insurance site surveys for process safety related actions.
• Other duties as assigned.

The Ideal Candidate:

• Bachelor’s or advanced degree in chemical, process or mechanical engineering preferred.
• Requires 3-5 or more years of relevant experience in the Oil, Gas, Chemical, Pharmaceutical or Flavors & Fragrance manufacturing or similar environment.
• Requires a solid knowledge of Process Safety Management regulations and requirements.
• Experience working in multicultural environment and within a matrix organization. Led PSM in chemical manufacturing facility, QC and R&D laboratory.
• Experience in Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR) and Process Hazard Analysis (e.g. hazard and operability review (HAZOP) studies).
• In depth understanding of process safety safeguards (interlocks, SIS design criteria, mechanical protection, inherent safe design etc.).
• Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to effectively engage cross-functional and diverse stakeholders.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills are essential.
