Project Manager & Engineering Manager - Toa Payoh
Position Overview
We are seeking a Project Manager & Engineering Manager for our Singapore office to lead cross-border development projects between Nextbeat Japan headquarters and our overseas subsidiary. This role involves managing distributed teams and building engineering capabilities across the Asia-Pacific region.
Key Responsibilities
Project Management- Drive cross-border development projects between Japan headquarters and Singapore office
- Implement and optimize Agile/Scrum development processes for distributed teams
- Manage project schedules, deliverables, and stakeholder communications
- Coordinate requirements definition and specification documentation
- Facilitate effective communication and direction with Japan development teams
- Oversee vendor management and external partnership relationships as needed
- Build and lead engineering teams across Asia-Pacific through direct hiring or vendor partnerships
- Establish development processes and quality standards for offshore teams
- Recruit, train, and develop engineering talent in Singapore and neighboring countries
- Develop and execute engineering talent acquisition strategies for the Asia-Pacific region
- Evaluate and decide between direct hiring vs. vendor management approaches
- Build scalable team structures to support multiple product development streams
- Establish technical standards and best practices for distributed development
- Collaborate with our Bangladesh group development company

Nextbeat is expanding its business and considering a structure where overseas subsidiaries handle part of the headquarters' product development. We are seeking a leader who can build development capabilities in the Asia-Pacific region based in Singapore and achieve effective collaboration with Japan headquarters.
Required Qualifications
Essential Skills- Project Management Experience: 5+ years managing software development projects
- Team Leadership: Experience leading engineering teams of 5+ members
- Technical Background: 3+ years of hands-on software development experience
- Communication Skills: Strong English communication abilities (written and verbal)
- International Experience: Experience working in international or multicultural environments
- Agile/Scrum: Practical experience with Agile development methodologies
- Understanding of modern web technologies and cloud platforms
- Experience with project management tools and development workflows
- Knowledge of software quality assurance and testing processes
- Insights into offshore development challenges and solutions
Preferred Qualifications
Additional Skills- Experience with Japanese business culture and practices
- Engineering Manager or Technical Lead experience in startup/scale-up environments
- Vendor management and outsourcing experience in Asia-Pacific region
- Experience building engineering teams from scratch
- Knowledge of AI-powered communication and translation tools
- Scrum Master or PMP certification
- SaaS product development experience
- Understanding of platform business models
- Experience with microservices architecture
- Cloud platform expertise (AWS, GCP, Azure)
- DevOps and CI/CD pipeline experience
- Knowledge of multiple programming languages and frameworks
Work Environment
Location & Work Style- Singapore-based (with potential travel to other Asia-Pacific countries for team building)
