Part-Time Lecturer (BA(Hons) Music Business)
The School of Contemporary Music, within the Faculty of Performing Arts, seeks to appoint a dynamic educator and business-focused researcher to teach on the BA (Hons) Music Business programme.
The programme is designed to develop commercially focused, analytically rigorous, and entrepreneurial graduates equipped to operate within the local, regional, and global music economies. The curriculum integrates academic inquiry with industry practice, emphasising market strategy, business model innovation, cultural and creative industries and data-informed decision-making.
Reporting to the Programme Leader (BA (Hons) Music Business), you will be teaching Music Business Revenue Streams and Data Analytics in the BA (Hons) Music Business programme, covering revenue models across recorded music, publishing, live performance and digital platforms, as well as data analytics, audience insights and performance metrics used to inform strategic decision-making in the music industry.
You will also consult with students on the financial and data-driven aspects of their portfolios, including revenue optimisation, reporting and audience analysis, as well as advise on collaborative projects, which are mandatory components of the programme that all students must undertake.
The primary responsibilities of a part-time lecturer are to plan, teach and assess within the existing curriculum of the assigned programme and provide student-learning support. Part-time lecturers are usually engaged on a semester basis and paid on an hourly-rated basis which depend on their highest qualification.
Requirements:
- Postgraduate qualification, preferably at PhD level, in a relevant field such as music business, data analytics, economics, music industry studies or related disciplines.
- At least five years of tertiary-level teaching experience in a relevant subject area, and full-time professional experience in the music industry, digital platforms, or data-driven business environments (e.g. streaming services, analytics, consulting, or revenue strategy).
- Demonstrated ability to teach and supervise business- and data-oriented academic work, including research methodologies, quantitative and qualitative analysis, and financial modelling.
- Experience in delivering content that bridges data analysis and commercial practice, including areas such as music revenue streams (recorded, publishing, live), royalty flows, streaming economics, audience analytics, and performance metrics.
- Teaching qualification or equivalent pedagogical development is an advantage.
- Strong analytical, critical thinking and communication skills, with the ability to translate complex data and financial concepts into accessible and applied learning experiences.
- Ability to engage students across a range of delivery modes, including lectures, seminars, workshops, and project-based or data-driven learning environments (e.g. analytics dashboards, case studies and industry datasets).
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across disciplines and contribute to programme development, curriculum design and strategic initiatives.
- Strong pastoral care and student mentorship capabilities, particularly in supporting students’ academic progression, analytical skill development and professional readiness.
- Active engagement in research, with a preference for candidates who demonstrate a research profile in areas such as music economics, digital distribution, platform ecosystems, audience behaviour or data analytics in the creative industries, and the ability to mentor emerging researchers.
- Industry-relevant experience in the music sector (e.g. label operations, publishing, streaming platforms, artist management or data/analytics roles) is advantageous.
Closing date is 30 June 2026 or until the position is filled. We regret that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
