Sputter Equipment Development Engineering Intern, Equipment Engineering
About our group:
The Sputter Equipment Development Engineering (SpEDE) team at Seagate designs and develops advanced sputter process equipment used in HDD media manufacturing. Our engineers work across mechanical design, vacuum systems, thermal engineering, automation, and process integration, taking ideas from concept through simulation, prototyping, testing, and deployment into production.
As an intern, you’ll join a collaborative engineering team that values strong fundamentals, curiosity, and learning by doing. You’ll gain first-hand exposure to how real engineering problems are solved and how theory turns into working equipment.
About the role - you will:
As a SpEDE Intern, you will work closely with experienced mechanical, thermal, and equipment engineers, contributing to real product and equipment development. Your responsibilities include:
- Supporting the mechanical design of parts and sub-systems for high-vacuum sputter equipment
- Assisting with thermal simulations to study heat generation, transfer, and temperature distribution
- Learning how simulation results are validated with test and field data, and how gaps are investigated
- Participating in prototype builds, equipment integration, and engineering tests
- Helping to collect, organize, and analyze engineering test or performance data
- Preparing engineering documentation, reports, and presentations
- Collaborating with mechanical, thermal, process, and manufacturing engineers on cross-functional tasks
- Hands-on experience with industrial and high-vacuum equipment development
- Practical exposure to thermal simulation and data-driven engineering validation
- Experience working in a professional engineering environment with mentorship
- Insight into how engineers contribute to advanced manufacturing equipment
About you:
We are looking for someone who are hands-on, curious, and motivated to solve real-world engineering problems.- A creative problem solver with an innovator mindset, comfortable exploring new ideas
- Independent, proactive, and open to changes in direction, scope, or design
- Curious and hands-on, motivated to understand how things work and how to improve them
- Able to communicate clearly and collaborate with engineers across multiple disciplines
- Organized, responsible, and able to manage tasks with guidance
- Able to commit to a fulltime internship from Aug to Dec
Your experience includes:
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering / Physics or a related discipline
- Basic understanding of engineering fundamentals
- Exposure to 3D CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, COMSOL, ANSYS, Creo, NX, or similar)
- Introductory knowledge of heat transfer or thermal concepts is a plus
Location:
Our Woodlands site is one of the largest electronics manufacturing sites in Singapore, housing our recording media operations. Spread over three sites, it is easily accessible via bus or from the MRT Station, with many employees taking mass transportation to work. Here at work, you can enjoy breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks at our onsite canteen and coffee shop. We offer a range of facilities including an in-house gym and dance studio, as well as after-work badminton and table tennis competitions. On-site celebrations and community volunteer opportunities also abound.
