ANAESTHESIA UNIT TECHNICIAN
(A) JOB SUMMARY
The Anaesthesia Unit (AU) Technician supports the delivery of safe and effective anaesthesia services. The AU Technician will assist anaesthetist and surgical teams by preparing, maintaining, and troubleshooting anaesthesia equipment, ensuring patient safety and operational readiness in surgical and procedural environments.
(B) PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES- Set up and prepare anaesthesia machines, monitoring equipment and consumables prior to surgical or procedural cases.
- Conduct daily pre-operative safety and functionality checks on anaesthesia machines and related devices; ensure all equipment is in working order before the start of surgical lists.
- Ensure all anaesthesia machines and related equipment are cleaned, disinfected, and functional according to hospital protocols and infection control standards.
- Assist anaesthetists during procedures by providing technical support, including handling equipment and emergency setups.
- Monitor stock levels of anaesthesia drugs, supplies and consumables; liase with Nurse Manager for replenishment when necessary.
- Perform regular preventive maintenance and minor troubleshooting for equipment; escalate complex issues to biomedical engineers when required.
- Maintain accurate documentation for equipment maintenance, incidents, and stock usage.
- Support emergency response situations, including the preparation of emergency airway and resuscitation equipment.
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, infection control, and safety regulations at all times.
(C) SECONDARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Any other task as assigned by Nurse Manager / Senior Executive / Head of Department.
Cross-support other nurses in their duties across each specialty discipline as required.
(D) KEY JOB SPECIFICATIONS- Education
- Diploma / NITEC in Biomedical Science, Nursing, or a related healthcare field or Certificate in Anaesthesia Technician.
- BCLS / AED Certified
- Demonstrates pro-active role in anticipating patient needs and in delivering satisfaction.
- Able and willing to project a positive image for the company when interacting with external parties.
- Ability to work effectively with others in the team and organization to accomplish team and organization goals and to identify and resolve problems.
- Attention to detail, with a commitment to maintaining a high standard of patient care and safety.
- Possesses a pleasant personality, service oriented and good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Prior experience (1-3 years) working in an hospital or day surgery centre operating theatre is preferred.
