The National University of Singapore invites applications for a Research Associate position in Professor Brian Kennedy's lab, in the Healthy Longevity Translational Research Programme, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. The lab focuses on basic, clinical and transformative research to add healthy year of life by developing interventions to delay ageing and chronic disease onset, increase healthspan and improve life quality.
Appointments will be on a 1-year contract in the first instance, with the possibility of extension.
Purpose of the post
The successful candidate will be working closely with the Senior Research Fellow to investigate the effects of repurposed drugs and natural products on influencing healthspan and lifespan in experimental mouse ageing models. The project requires large scale animal handling and maintenance, periodic animal behavioral and functional studies, and tissue collection/processing.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
The Research Associate will need to:
- Provide research support to the project in both cellular studies and in vivo mouse study and conduct a research project independently.
- Able to perform analysis and interpret data independently.
- Work well with team members as well as collaborators and external research institutes.
- Provide administrative duties such as maintenance of safety documents and housekeeping of wet laboratory and supervise junior research staff or undergraduate students/interns.
- Maintain the highest standard of professional conduct and record keeping in accordance with policies and procedures.
- A Masters in biomedical/life sciences or related disciplines
- At least 3-5 years of experience working in a research lab
- Extensive experience in one or more of the following disciplines will be advantageous:
- Basic animal handling skills, husbandry and animal behavioral studies, mouse colony maintenance, genotyping and mouse dissection
- Primary/ Neuronal culture techniques, flow cytometry, histology/ animal imaging
- Cell/Molecular Biology/Neuroscience
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in written and spoken English
- Candidate should be independent, motivated and has an interest in scientific research.
