CrossFit/Functional Fitness Coach
Job Description
As a CrossFit / Functional Fitness Coach at Innervate, you are the primary point of contact between our members and their training. Your core job is to deliver high-quality group coaching that keeps members safe, progressing and coming back. Beyond the class floor, you contribute to the broader member experience and the operational rhythm of the gym.
Coaching & Class Delivery
Lead 4–6 group functional fitness classes per day across CrossFit, strength and conditioning formats
Brief each class clearly: explain the intent of the session, demonstrate movements, set expectations on intensity and scalingActively coach throughout the class: correct form, scale movements appropriately for individual members and manage class flow and timing
Run warm-ups and cool-downs that prepare members for the work and support recovery
Adapt programming on the fly when needed (injuries, equipment, class size) without compromising the session's intent
Member Development & Retention
Track member progress: know their goals, their limitations, and what they're working on
Provide individualised feedback, scaling options and progression pathways for members at all levels, including new or inexperienced members
Follow up with members who go quiet - a quick message goes a long way
Identify members who would benefit from personal training, specialty programs or our adaptive fitness offerings and make warm referrals
Safety & Floor Management
Maintain a safe training environment at all times: stop unsafe movement immediately and manage class density and layout
Keep equipment organised, clean and in working order, report damage or wear early
Ensure the gym is presentable before and after your shift (resetting equipment, wiping down, sanitising)
Respond appropriately to injuries or medical incidents, applying CPR/AED protocols when required
Community & Culture
Build genuine relationships with members: learn names, remember details, celebrate wins
Participate in and help run gym events, member challenges, in-house competitions and social activities
Contribute to our online community (member group chats, social media features, testimonials) where appropriate
Represent Innervate professionally outside the gym, at events, partner sessions and in the broader fitness community
Continuing Development
Train consistently yourself: your own practice is part of the job
Pursue continuing education (CF-L2, specialty certs, weightlifting, gymnastics, etc.) with our support
Attend coach development meetings, peer coaching sessions and programming reviews
Receive and act on feedback from other coaches, give thoughtful feedback to peers
Cross-Program Contribution (as you grow into the role)
Assist with adaptive fitness sessions delivered under partnerships with other organisations
Contribute to content for our digital fitness platform (movement demos, programming, written content)
Cover classes at the sister location when needed
Support programming, events or operational projects aligned with your interests
Administrative
Log attendance, member notes and incident reports through our gym management system
Communicate clearly with the coaches and management about scheduling, member issues and equipment needs
Be on time and ready to coach for every shift
