Job Summary

Support daily operations of an inclusive biology lab focused on organism growth and plant tissue culture. Provide hands-on mentorship to neurodiverse young adults while ensuring lab safety, equipment maintenance, and accurate documentation.

• Support setup, calibration, and maintenance of lab equipment to ensure smooth lab operations
• Enforce safety procedures consistently, especially for neurodiverse participants and senior volunteers
• Maintain cleanliness and sterility of work areas during aseptic processes to prevent contamination
• Track and manage inventory of chemicals, biological materials, and consumables to ensure resource availability
• Assist in developing and refining standard operating procedures (SOPs) to improve lab workflows
• Assist in biological production activities and document workflows, yields, and issues for process improvement
• Provide respectful, patient, hands-on guidance to neurodiverse young adults performing lab tasks
• Adapt workflows to accommodate varying abilities and support inclusive participation
• Maintain accurate records of experiments, procedures, and outcomes for quality control and reporting
• Assist with quality control and logging of final products for safe storage or display
• Compile data for research, funding reports, and partner presentations to support organizational goals
• Assist with lab tours, outreach events, and preparation of educational materials to promote inclusive innovation
• Contribute occasionally to community workshops or demonstrations to engage stakeholders
• Collaborate closely with Lab Manager and programme leads to coordinate project timelines and report progress
• Liaise with external vendors or institutions for sample testing or sourcing as required

• Ability to work effectively with individuals with special needs and demonstrate empathy for vulnerable groups
• Knowledge of tissue culture, sterilization processes, and plant growth recommended for core lab functions

• Diploma or degree in Biology, Chemistry, Life Sciences, or related field
• Prior experience working in a laboratory setting
• Passion for inclusion, community service, or social impact work
• Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
• Comfortable working in a mixed-ability environment
• Strong interpersonal communication and mentoring skills
