Translator / Interpreter / Admin Officer

About the Role

The primary responsibility is to facilitate effective communication between Japanese and English-speaking (and vice versa) staff members/associate company/external visitors/vendors within the manufacturing plant and/or the organization. The role is crucial in ensuring smooth operations and maintaining a harmonious working environment.

• Cross-Cultural Communication
• Act as a bridge between Japanese and English-speaking personnel to facilitate clear and effective communication.
• Guide cultural differences, business etiquette, and workplace practices.
• Promote a positive and inclusive multicultural work environment.
• Documentation Support
• Create, translate, proofread, and maintain bilingual documents, including:
• Production reports
• Safety guidelines
• Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
• Ensure accuracy, clarity, and consistency in all documentation.
• Collaboration Support
• Work closely with internal and external departments, including:
• Production
• Technical
• QESH
• Finance & Costing
• Management
• Provide interpretation and coordination support during meetings and cross-functional projects.
• Language Support
• Provide language assistance and conduct basic language lessons:
• English lessons for Japanese employees
• Japanese lessons for English-speaking employees
• Assist with daily workplace communication and correspondence.
• Administration Support
• Manage and maintain data using Excel spreadsheets.
• Support 5S activities in the Administration Building.
• Assist in organizing recreational activities and company events.
• Provide general reception support.
• Perform additional administrative duties when translation/interpretation activities are minimal.

• Minimum a Diploma holder. A bachelor’s degree in translation, language studies, or a related field is preferred.
• Higher-level JLPT certification is a strong advantage.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience.
• Experience in translation and interpretation, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience working in a Japanese Company is preferred.
• Alternatively, having studied in Japan will be of added advantage.
• Proficiency in both Japanese and English, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to provide swift and accurate translate and/or interpretation service in office environment and/or out-field.
• A deep understanding of technical and manufacturing terminology in both Japanese and English will be advantageous.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills to handle multiple tasks.
• Mature, responsible, resourceful, proactive, pleasant and service-oriented.
• Strong attention to details and accuracy in translation work.
• Cultural sensitivity and the ability to navigate cross-cultural communication effectively.
• Maintain a high level of professionalism by displaying integrity, confidentiality and discretion is crucial.
• Being open and curious to learning new terminology, industry-specific jargon, and improving language skills to stay up to date with advancement in the manufacturing field.
• Strong problem-solving skills and willing to go the extra mile.
• Strong team player.
