The Director, Commercial, APAC, under the Construction team, will spearhead all commercial management functions across the Asia-Pacific region, focusing on cost control, contract management, and financial planning to ensure efficient project execution.

This role is pivotal in overseeing project budgets, forecasting expenditures, and conducting rigorous financial analysis to support Vantage’s construction efforts within the APAC region. By implementing cost-effective strategies and leading negotiations with vendors and contractors, the Director will contribute to delivering projects on time and within budget, all while maintaining compliance with company standards and regional regulations.

Reporting to the Senior Director, Project Delivery, APAC, the Director, Commercial will play a critical role in liaising between internal teams and external partners, optimizing procurement processes, and managing supplier relationships to support project delivery.

This role requires strong collaboration with project managers, cost estimators, and other cross-functional teams to drive process improvements, support contract administration, and identify cost-saving opportunities. As a leader within the construction team, the Director will provide strategic insights to influence long-term planning and contribute to Vantage’s growth and presence in the APAC market.

Essential Job Functions
  • Commercial and Risk Management: Lead the quantification and strategic management of commercial risk across the APAC region to ensure successful project delivery. Develop and apply procurement strategies tailored to each region, incorporating risk management improvements to safeguard business interests and enhance process efficiency.
  • Contractual and Quality Assurance: Oversee all commercial and contractual aspects related to the design, procurement, delivery, and operation of projects, ensuring adherence to the highest quality standards. Evaluate risks associated with each project, assessing contractual obligations, amendments, and legal agreements to secure best-value outcomes and mitigate liabilities.
  • Process Optimization and Innovation: Leverage extensive industry knowledge to innovate and refine cost control and commercial risk management processes. Identify and recommend improvements to existing procedures, collaborating with project delivery and legal teams to implement these enhancements in a practical and effective manner.
  • Adaptability and Regional Responsiveness: Demonstrate flexibility in adapting to the specific needs of each APAC region, navigating diverse agreements, local regulations, and contract types (FIDIC, NEC, and local forms) to optimize procurement and project delivery outcomes. Willingness to travel within the APAC region and work across construction sites, engineering offices, and operational data centers.
  • Strategic Business Acumen: Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the business context in each APAC country to drive cost-effective procurement and risk management strategies aligned with Vantage’s objectives. Regularly assess and communicate commercial risk and exposure to executive leadership, contributing valuable insights to support informed decision-making.
  • Relationship Management and Communication: Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal teams, external consultants, legal advisors, and contractors. Communicate project delivery risks, mitigation strategies, and commercial insights clearly to executives, legal counsel, and project teams, fostering collaboration and alignment across all stakeholders.
Job Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, quantity surveying, finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in commercial management within the construction industry, with a strong background in managing cost control, contract administration, and financial planning across large-scale projects. Previous experience in the data center or mission-critical facilities sector is preferred.
  • Proven track record of leading and developing high-performing teams, with at least 5 years in a management role. Demonstrated ability to mentor and guide team members, fostering a collaborative and results-oriented work environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of cost estimation, budgeting, and financial analysis, as well as strong negotiation skills for supplier and vendor contracts. Familiarity with procurement strategies and supply chain management specific to the construction sector.
  • Solid understanding of regional compliance and regulatory standards in the APAC construction market, ensuring that all commercial practices align with local laws and company policies.
