Role Context

This role focuses on alternative financing structures, private capital, guarantees, and bond solutions for international thermal power EPC projects in emerging and frontier markets. The Finance Manager will own financing strategy end-to-end, operating in a constrained sector with limited access to traditional bank funding.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Financing Strategy & Structuring
  • Design and execute non-traditional financing solutions for thermal (including coal-based) power EPC projects
  • Structure financing through: private credit funds, family offices and high-net-worth investors, commodity traders and off-takers (prepayment / offtake-linked finance), sponsor- or government-backed arrangements, and EPC-supported or balance-sheet-based financing
  • Lead bond issuance structures (where applicable), including private placements, project bonds, or guaranteed bonds
  • Work closely with legal and commercial teams to deliver bankable and executable financing structures
  1. Guarantees, Bonds & Security Structures
  • Develop and structure comprehensive guarantee and security packages, including: cash-backed guarantees, SBLCs via offshore banks, parent company guarantees, escrow, retention, and reserve mechanisms, and asset-backed or revenue-backed security structures
  • Lead negotiations on guarantee and bond documentation, including wording, limits, tenors, extensions, and release mechanisms
  • Coordinate with banks, trustees, and guarantee issuers on execution and compliance
  1. Negotiation & Capital Provider Management
  • Lead commercial and financial negotiations with lenders, investors, and capital providers to secure favorable: interest rates, fees and pricing structures, and covenants and security terms
  • Act as the primary commercial interface during financing and refinancing processes
  • Balance project bankability with EPC and sponsor risk tolerance
  1. Counterparty, Country & Financial Risk Management
  • Assess sovereign, utility, and off-taker credit risk in frontier and high-risk markets
  • Identify and mitigate financial risks, including: currency and FX exposure, interest rate volatility, construction and completion delays, and payment default and transfer risk
  • Structure risk mitigation solutions such as: advance payment protection, payment security waterfalls, offshore accounts and controlled cash-flow mechanisms
  • Advise senior management on acceptable risk profiles and cost-benefit trade-offs
  1. Stakeholder Coordination & Reporting
  • Act as lead interface with: private lenders, bond investors, and alternative capital providers, offshore banks and guarantee issuers, project sponsors, utilities, and government entities
  • Coordinate closely with legal advisors on financing, security, and guarantee documentation
  • Prepare regular financial and risk reports for: senior management, investors and lenders, and iInternal project and commercial teams
Requirements
  • 5–10 years of experience in: finance for power or infrastructure projects, or alternative / structured finance in high-risk or restricted sectors
  • Demonstrated financial management experience, including budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, financial reporting, and performance monitoring.
  • Proven, hands-on experience with guarantees, bonds, and security structures in constrained environments.
  • Strong ability to structure around ESG, sectoral, or jurisdictional restrictions.
  • Solid understanding of EPC contracts, milestone-based payments, and payment security mechanisms.
  • Comfortable operating in emerging and frontier markets with weak or non-investment-grade credit profiles.
