Our business development, marketing and communications team is integral to the setting and achievement of the firm’s global business objectives, which includes supporting our partners and associates in their pursuit of becoming our clients’ trusted advisers, building and maintaining long-lasting, deep institutional client relationships, winning new clients, increasing the visibility of the firm globally, positioning the firm as the thought leader and most advanced law firm among the global elite law firms.

The function works as one team across the globe with close collaboration between the central groups, such as communications, and the professionals working in local offices, practice groups, sectors, and clients.

Role purpose

This role focuses on the delivery of Business Development activities supporting A&O Shearman’s preeminent Litigation practice, with particular focus on Hong Kong and Singapore International Arbitration team, as well as Litigation & Investigations and Regulatory teams.

The Senior Business Development Executive role involves managing the coordination and delivery of complex proposals, client events (webinars, seminars, networking events etc), thought leadership campaigns, and client targeting activities.

Role and responsibilities
  • Lead role researching, scoping, coordinating, and preparing pitch presentations, proposals and credentials statements for the product areas, often to tight deadlines.
  • Prepare directory submissions and award submissions.
  • Develop, track and maintain deal lists and the experience database, and manage league table submissions.
  • Deliver high-quality, targeted BD initiatives, including integrated campaigns, external positioning activities, marketing materials, and client events.
  • Monitor, research and analyse new product offerings, ensuring they meet market demands and client's needs.
  • Support and guide the development and implementation of new product offerings.
  • Identify relevant networking and sponsorship opportunities for partners and associates.
  • Assist with developing and enhancing regional client relationship programs.
  • Drive and facilitate cross-region interaction to ensure cohesive and coordinated service offerings across the firm.
  • Lead the planning and support for sponsorships, seminars, and events.
  • Seek opportunities to participate in and/or lead firmwide, local or practice area projects as required.
  • Manage mailing and event invitation lists.
  • Ensure effective communication and consultation with regional BD colleagues to share knowledge, best practices, and support cross-office initiatives.
Key requirements
  • Graduate degree / University degree in business/related disciplines.
  • Relevant business development and/or marketing experience at an equivalent level within a professional services organisation - minimum 4 years’ experience.
  • Proven ability to produce high quality business development material, independently, to deadline and to a high standard.
  • Enthusiasm to develop an in-depth understanding of the market – legal, business, client requirements, competition etc.
  • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills – with partners, key associates, and business development colleagues, clients and suppliers.
  • Ability to respond promptly to requests and be known for managing expectations.
  • Excellent communication skills – both written and oral.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and tenacious; able to work under pressure.
  • Professional, creative, good humoured and enthusiastic approach to all work and interactions.
  • A team player and highly collaborative.
  • Exceptional technology skills with a high proficiency in MS suite of products and marketing technology stacks (eg CRM, EDM, PowerBI, understanding of AI and its application in marketing preferred)
