Backend Systems Engineer
Salary: $3,000 – $4,000, 5 days a week

Key Responsibilities
You will be responsible for developing and maintaining robust loT/OT infrastructure that enables real-time environmental monitoring across Singapore. This includes integrating diverse sensor networks, ensuring reliable data collection and processing, and creating scalable solutions that support NEA's environmental protection initiatives.You will work closely with cross-functional tear to deliver systems that enhance Singapore's environmental monitoring capabilities.
- Full-Stack IoT Development & System Integration
Maintain OpenAPI documentation to facilitate interoperability across public and private sector systems.
- Hardware-Software Validation, Cybersecurity & Compliance
Conduct rigorous integration testing and impact analysis for hardware changes, ensuring alignment with Singapore’s regulatory landscape—including PDPA for data protection and IMDA standards for connected devices. Apply cybersecurity best practices consistent with CSA guidelines to maintain system hygiene and protect critical OT environments.
- Cloud Infrastructure, Performance Optimisation & Reliability
Troubleshoot and optimise system performance to support mission-critical applications in sectors such as transport, utilities, or public housing.
- Stakeholder Engagement & Agile Delivery
Collaborate closely with management, end users, and cross-functional teams to align technical solutions with business goals. Gather user feedback iteratively to refine features, reflecting the collaborative, fast-paced nature of Singapore’s technology projects in both government agencies and enterprise environments.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in computer engineering, computer science, electrical and electronics engineering or equivalent
At least 2 years of development, implementation and/or maintenance of sensor-related systems/platforms in production environment
At least 1 year of sensor / loT device integration as part of the loT / OT system implementation
Experience in deployment, maintenance and integration of loT / OT systems would be an advantage, including AWS loT Greengrass, Azure loT Edge, industrial protocols (RS-485, Modbu RTU, ModbusTCP), interoperability standards (OPC-UA), embedded protocols (12C, SPI, UART, CAN), edge computing and embedded systems integration.
Proficient in programming and scripting such as C++, Python, Net, Java etc.
Experience in serverless computing platforms (e.g. Lambda) or container technologies / orchestration (e.g. Docker) would be an advantage * Good working knowledge of DevOps in hybrid cloud setup
Strong technical aptitude, including excellent troubleshooting and communications skills
Strong interest in emerging loT and OT technologies, with the ability to proactively and independently acquire technical skills through on-the-job exposure
Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced and complex work environment
Relevant industry certification in systems engineering would be an advantage
